Reflections from the week of 1-18-16
Last Monday, teachers and administrators took 31 AMCHS students to participate in the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. march and program. The speaker, Mrs. Jackie Hood-Martin was inspirational and encouraged us to not to wait on someone to give us permission but to take that next step. When was the last time you had a bright idea or a practice you wanted to implement, but you waited on someone to ask you to share it? If you aspire to be better, you have permission to strengthen that area!
On Thursday and Friday, the accreditation team from the Southern Association of Accredited Schools visited AMCHS and assessed our school (i.e. vision and purpose, teaching and learning, resources and support, data). The team visited and questioned parents, students, teachers, administrators, and support staff. Overall, our school was commended on doing so many things well. The site team chairperson commented about the positive culture and climate, high expectations, and how people treated each other respectfully. Moreover, one commented that "if she was not retired, she would love to work at AMCHS.” In contrast, she identified some areas that we need to strengthen, too. The process was tedious and time consuming, but it was worth it. We will address the areas that need improvement and continue to press forward to meet the needs of the students we serve.
Thank you for being a difference maker at AMCHS.
