Nuts and Bolts
ISTEP is this week. We will be FINE. Don't be nervous! Do your very best to start ON TIME! Acton Elementary ISTEP Need To Know Information
- Please review the ISTEP schedule that was in your mailbox on Thursday.
- Refer to the Small Group Student Lists with Testing Administrators and locations (attached)- made a few small adjustments and already notified those that are affected.
- Refer to the proctor schedule. Please review carefully.
. In case of an emergency anyone can be moved to proctor an additional assessment
a. There is a small chance that one proctor may be finishing one assessment and may be a few minutes late to the next class. If this happens they will quietly enter the room and begin circulating.
b. Due to proctoring, the IA’s and any proctors will not be able to conduct any AM T3 groups and MAY NOT be available for TT support during the ISTEP testing days.
c. The Intervention RA Teacher each day will be supporting the Special Ed schedule in order to cover required IEP minutes.
d. Please send all Small Group Accommodation students to the front office 5 min BEFORE the testing. This is where we will sort students each day into their testing groups.
- Teachers need to pick up each day’s ISTEP materials no later than 8: 25 AM when you are testing. Books will be in the book room behind the Media Center Work Room.
. Count your books and sign them out.
a. Take them to your classroom. If you leave your room to go to duty or RA class, they need to be put away in a drawer or cabinet and door should be locked as you leave.
b. Return books to the book room immediately following your session in ABC order.
c. Count the books and sign them back in.
d. I’ll have a box for scrap paper to be discarded and manipulatives stored.
e. Enjoy being done for the day.
7. Students are REQUIRED to write their own names on the top of each of their testing booklets. They DO NOT have to bubble in anything on the booklets. I will write in all other items that need to be written.
I know this is a lot of information, but I want to try to calm any fears and answer as many questions as possible. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help you.

FTCSC DIBELS GOALS: Accuracy 85%and Fluency 80%
Ways to Respond to Independent Reading, Read with A Buddy, or Read Aloud Time~
1.) Facts and Opinions: Write down five facts found in what you read today. Now change these facts into opinions.
2.) Capitalization Quest: Find examples to illustrate the capitalization rules you know. Keep track of the page numbers for the examples you find.
Lather, rinse, repeat: Don’t just have students read frequently, have them reread frequently. Once students have made basic sense of the words in a sentence, ask them to go back and reread specifically for fluency.
Here are three reasons for a reread:
· To smooth out an original read that was wooden or required mechanical correction. “Okay, now that you’ve got the words, let’s go back and read it with energy. This is an exciting part of the book!”
· To emphasize some aspect of meaning or incorporate feedback. “Okay, good. Now read that sentence {or passage} again, and try to show how scared they are.” “Can you go back and put special emphasis on the words that show the boys are scared?”
· For fun or because the original read was especially good. “Oh that was great! Can you read it again so we can all hear how surly you made it sound?”

Write to focus: Before an important test, give students a few minutes to stretch their bodies, do some slow breathing, and write about how they feel about the upcoming test.
