Dear Parents and members of our school community
NAIDOC Week Prayer
May you always see the beauty of the Earth
May you always taste the sweetest fruit
May you always hear the laughter of the People
May you always feel the warmth of the Flame
May you always smell the perfume of the flowers
May your dreams always be happy ones
May your friends always be with you when you have need
May your stomach always be full
May you never feel hurt

NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC Week is held in the last week of term, week 10. During this week, St Jerome’s students will be involved in a range of activities that will teach students about the importance of the impact that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People had on the country we call home. NAIDOC Week is held across Australia in July each year to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Semester One Reports
I would like to remind parents that the expectations for report grades rise considerably as students advance from year to year. Semester 1 learning area grades provide an indication of where students are placed in terms of the year level outcomes they are expected to achieve by the end of the year.
For semester 1, a “C” grade indicates that a student is on track to achieve the year level outcomes by the end of the year. In some instances, a student’s grade may be lower than they received at the end of last year.
This does not necessarily mean they have gone “backwards”. It is simply an indication of where they are placed in terms of the outcomes they are working towards for the current year.
Teachers endeavour to report on what your child can currently do and what they are working towards in order to improve further. Please ensure you read the comments carefully as these will also provide valuable information about a student’s progress.
Confirmation Masses held last week
Thank you to Father Mathew for celebrating Mass & administering the Sacrament of Confirmation; Carol Hoare, Soly & John Fernandez, Stuart McClorey, Melissa Fusari, Peta Nicolau & Manuela Benino for their very thorough preparation of the students. Both Masses were beautiful ceremonies & were personally so meaningful for the students & their families.
Semester 2 Start and Finish Times
Dear parents
At the end of last year, many WA Catholic Schools, including St Jerome’s, had to adjust their start times, recess breaks and finish times in order to meet legislative requirements relating to Hours of Instruction. This meant that St Jerome’s students only received 15 minutes recess time which was not satisfactory in terms of encouraging a time to be active.
With the cooperation of all the teachers, we have worked out a change to the start time for instruction and a minor adjustment to the end of the school day. These changes mean students will now receive a 20 minute recess and 45 minute lunch break.
From Monday 22nd July the doors to all Pre-Primary to Year 6 rooms will open at 8.40am.
Teaching will begin at 8.40am
The school gates will open at 8am and supervision of students will commence at 8.15am until 8.40am.
No student should be here before 8am.
Recess will be from 10.40am till 11am
Lunch will be from 12.30pm to 1.15pm
End of school is 3.03pm
Please note also that the end of the students’ 2019 school year will be Friday 13th December.

Wishing you all a flu free and relaxing holiday. We hope the children return recharged for an exciting term 3.

Plastic Bottle Tops Collection
Plastic bottle tops recycled to make artificial hands for children damaged by war.
Please help us by continuing to collect plastic bottle tops from any kind of container that you have at home and bringing them along to the school office or the church lobby where you will find a box to place them in. Spread the word among your family and friends about this wonderful initiative and start collecting so that we can make a difference to those children affected so tragically by war. We will be making a difference to these children and also helping our environment.
We are delighted to advise that Seton Catholic College and Our Lady Of Mount Carmel will also be collaborating with us in this project.
Thank you to everyone for your support.
Best wishes
Carol Hoare
Mathletics
This year, the school has re-introduced Mathletics as a way to support and develop student learning. On Tuesday, there was a special lunch celebration held for our top 20 mathletes from a number of year levels. Each of these students has worked hard this semester to achieve some great results, and they were recognised for their efforts with a special lunch. Students had a great time munching down their pizza and icy-poles as they took a moment to celebrate their achievements.
A special mention must go to Cooper, Josie, and Luca from 4 Green who were our top 3 mathletes in Semester One!
With such high achievers it may come as no surprise that the top class overall this semester was 4 Green with Mr Jones, followed closely by 6 Green, and 3 Green.
As a school we have spent over 2500 hours using Mathletics both at home in the class, have completed over 15,000 activities, and have achieved almost 3,000,000 mathletics points. Congratulations to all students on their efforts!
