Habit of the Week: Habit 5
Listen Before You Talk
I listen to other people’s ideas and feelings. I try to see things from their viewpoints. I listen to others without interrupting. I am confident in voicing my ideas. I look people in the eyes when talking.
NEISD Rodeo Day is February 19!
PTA will provide a "Rodeo Breakfast" beginning at 7:15 in the Lounge. Yee-Haw!!
Congratulations 5th grade Strings Members!
This past Saturday, nine Huebner fifth graders in Strings performed in the annual Fifth Grade Solo Contest at Bradley Middle School. Each student played in front of a judge, who then offered constructive feedback and gave them an overall score for their performance. Every Huebner student who participated received a medal! Please help me in congratulating them on their hard work!
Important Reminders:
February 15 is Staff Development Day:
Looking forward to our day together on campus. Dress is super casual. Attendance by all certified staff is expected; I need to know if you are not going to be here. Here's the agenda: https://goo.gl/9zMPWs
Cha-Chaa-Chaaange! We are in progress with a new hire for Special Ed/ALE so we are getting things on campus ready. Alberto and Makerspace have graciously agreed to move to room 34, so classes will begin in the new room on Tuesday. Laurie Harris and SCEED tutoring are moving to room 14. Please "Think Win/Win" during this transition and assist students to getting to their new locations. Also, give Alberto a pat on the back for his flexibility and understanding! More information on our new hire will be coming soon.
Early Dismissal Days are Coming: February 23 and 24 are designated as parent conference days, so start scheduling now. Conferences are required for all struggling and/or failing students. Student led conferences are great! Conduct individual parent conferences as needed. GLCs should cover conference information (that I gave at the GLC meetings) with the entire team.
Intervention and Tutoring: If students are failing or in danger of failing, they should be in RAP/MAP and tutoring (before or after school). Please discuss this with parents at conferences. If parents refuse tutoring, please have them put that in writing. You will also need to keep attendance for tutoring, as well as in-school interventions. And don't forget about Compass and RtI!
Math Unit Training: Please make sure that at least 1 person from your grade level attends the unit training. Also, teachers new to the grade level are required to attend the new teacher trainings for your grade. Please see the EbD for details. Training for K, 1, and 4 is coming up.
Suicide Prevention Training: GLCs should turn in certificates when all members have completed training. Training must be completed and certificates turned in by Friday, Feb. 19. The principles of Reflective Conversation can be helpful for all conversations with parents, students, and colleagues. Keep this in mind during upcoming conferences.
