Our October character power word is COOPERATION! Here are some ways to teach and practice cooperation at home:
6 Ways to Teach Cooperation
- Encourage turn-taking
- Do chores together starting at an early age
- Explain your reasons for family rules and helping each other out
- Take time to practice problem solving
- Give specific praise for cooperative efforts
- Offer suggestions, not commands

- We will hold our Fall Scholastic Book Fair November 7-11th. More information to come about shopping night and volunteering!
Halloween
Here are the costume guidelines:
- Students may wear their costumes while learning
- It is important that our students be able to walk, sit, see and hear
- Masks that cover the entire face may only be worn during the parade (please no "scary" masks for school)
- Please refrain from any fake weapons or props, scary masks, and/or inappropriate costumes that may cause fear for children
- We are also asking that students not wear fake blood, and/or make-up that may be a distraction

Garden Club
The North Garden Club will be meeting Friday, October 21st at 3:30pm at the Garden. Everyone is welcome, even if you have not enlisted, we just need parents to remain with their children.
The Club meets biweekly during the growing season at the garden, on the west side of the school, near the 5th grade playground. We try to switch days the of the week we meet to accommodate a variety of schedules, and it usually lasts about 45 minutes. The garden is ending it's second season with great success, we grew a variety of crops and flowers with the students involved in every step. It is a great opportunity if your child wants to garden but you don't :) You don't need any skills or knowledge, just the desire to be outside, in the soil and learn more about where our food comes from and how hard it is for our farmers to grow food for everyone! To be added to the email list please contact northgardencl@gmail.com.
Author Visit - Friday, December 2nd
North will be visited by author, Rekha S. Raja, on Friday December 2nd. She is the author of three children's books with plans for several others on the way. To promote her visit, we will be offering families the opportunity to purchase her books at a discounted price. Upon arrival, she will autograph each book and they will be distributed to students following the visit! Look for order forms mid-October!
