Hail Mary
The month of May is the month which the piety of the faithful has especially dedicated to Our Blessed Lady, and it is the occasion for a moving tribute of faith and love which Catholics in every part of the world pay to the Queen of Heaven. During this month Christians, both in church and in the privacy of the home, offer up to Mary from their hearts and especially fervent and loving homage of prayer and veneration.
Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with you;
blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God,
pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death.

Do you have a child ready to commence Kindergarten in 2020 at Holy Spirit School?
If your child was born between 1st July, 2015 and 30th June, 2016, please complete an application form and forward it to the office. Interviews for families in the wider community will be conducted in May, therefore, we would like to know how many existing families are interested in a position.
FOOD ALLERGY WEEK
‘Food Allergy Week (FAW) aims to raise awareness of food allergy including potentially fatal food allergies. Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia (A&AA) is calling on all Australians to unite during Food Allergy Week from 26 May – 1 June 2019, and for individuals to Be Aware. Show You Care. In class, children will be doing an activity during this week to show awareness.
Allergy Awareness
At Holy Spirit several students who have severe allergic reaction to nuts and other allergens. This reaction is called Anaphylaxis. It is a severe, rapidly progressive allergic reaction that is potentially life threatening and requires urgent treatment. The key to prevention of anaphylaxis in schools is knowledge of the student who has been diagnosed at risk, awareness of allergens, prevention and avoidance of exposure to those allergens and action in the case of a reaction.
As a preventative measure could we please ask you to consider the students who are at risk of anaphylaxis by:
- Avoid sending food to school which has nuts or nut products in.
- Teach your child to respect children who have food allergies.
- Teach your child not to share food, drink, food utensils or containers with anyone.
- Encourage your child to wash their hands before and after eating.
- Ask your child to get help immediately if their allergic schoolmate gets sick.
National Simultaneous Storytime
Tomorrow Holy Spirit will be celebrating “National Simultaneous Storytime” Day. This event is held every year with schools, childcares, playgroups and libraries all around Australia reading the same book at the same time. An Australian author is always featured and this year the book chosen is the gorgeous “Alpacas with Maracas” by Matt Cosgrove. Students are encouraged to join in the fun by bringing a pair of maracas to school as there may be a sing-a-long in the Hall using our instruments after the story

Thunderbolts (18 May)
Saturday morning was a blast for the Thunderbolts! We won our first game as a team. I think we all played a good solid game and definitely deserved the win! We won by three points with a score of 17 : 14. This was out best game yet. Go Thunderbolts!!!

Entertainment Books - NOW AVAILABLE!
Last year we sold 50 copies of the Entertainment book to Holy Spirit families and friends. We'd LOVE to exceed this amount. We raised $14 from every book sold and we raised $700 in 2019. There are $$$$ worth of savings to be had with plenty of local venues/discounts plus BALI to be used!
You also don't need to just purchase the WA copy either! You can purchase copies of all other States and still nominate Holy Spirit as your chosen fundraiser. They make great gifts or save whilst travelling!

Rotary Cambridge Guest Speaker - Helen Davidson
The Rotary Club of Cambridge is delighted to welcome back Best Programs 4 Kids’ Helen Davidson to be the Club’s Schools’ Programme guest speaker on Wednesday May the 29th.
Reserve your place now to hear Helen tell us all about how to parent and teach boys – how to cope with the challenges and to reap the rewards. Individually and in groups, boy dynamics can be different to those of girls. Understand the differences between genders and your discipline, confidence-building and communication strategies will have greater impact, particularly when parenting boys.
Helen Davidson is a therapist who cares passionately about children’s well-being. She formed her company, Best Programs 4 Kids with Claire Orange, one of our previous Rotary presenters. We’re very grateful that Helen has agreed to return as the Rotary Cambridge Schools’ Programme guest speaker later this term.

Performing Arts Festival for Catholic Schools and Colleges
Students who learn instruments outside of the school but still wish to represent Holy Spirit please get in touch with Mrs Milne before the end of term in order to get an entry form and to ensure you have chosen pieces that fit the requirements. Both Choirs and the Electric Spirits band will also be entering the festival so more details will be provided once available. We look forward to some great festival entries!

Mercedes Wicked Production
Mercedes College is proud to present its 2019 Production of Wicked. Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely friendship between two girls who first meet as sorcery students at Shiz University: the blonde and very popular Glinda and a misunderstood green girl named Elphaba.
Following an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths. Glinda's unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power while Elphaba's determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences for her future. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
