DVD Literacy

Our DVD Literacy committee will begin taping our 4th grade students this Monday, January 29th! . Information was sent home this week in your child's Communicator. The reminder form and questions can be found online here. Please help your child remember to bring their favorite book to school this week!

The committee has worked hard this past week to tape the 5th grade students. Thank you so much to all of the volunteers that helped with the recordings this week!

If you have not yet signed a permission form for your child (it only needs to be done once), a copy will be sent home in your child's communicator or you can find it online here (see also permission letter).

The DVD Literacy committee needs volunteers to help record the students during the school day. No experience necessary! If you are interested in volunteering, please email Amy Thompson at

Power of One Assembly

This Wednesday, January 27th, the students at Vernfield will be participating in an assembly called the "Power of One". The Power of One is a series of skits performed by actors who use boxes, colors, and masks to vividly portray what bullying is, what can be done about it, and how every child has the power of one, the power to report and deal with bullying when they see it. Warm Clothing Drive

Attention Parents and Students:

Vernfield’s Student Council is hosting a WARM CLOTHING Drive from Feb. 2nd to Feb. 9th.

All items will be donated to The Mitzvah Circle Foundation.

Items being collected are new or gently used.

Acceptable items: coats, hats, mittens/gloves, scarves, ear muffs

*Additional needed items include: toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant

(Toiletries need to be unopened.)

Donations can be dropped off in the main lobby. Thank you!!!

Lip Sync

Last call for forms for our annual Lip Sync event, which will be held on Friday, March 9th at Indian Crest Middle School. Permission forms, volunteer forms, and 5th grade Cover Contest forms were sent home this week in your child's Communicator.

*Permission slips for the 5th grade act were sent home in this week's communicator and are due by Wednesday, January 31st!

**Please note that the Lip Sync committee is asking that each act provide at least one parent volunteer the night of the event.*

2018 SASD All-District Elementary Honors Orchestra

Students from all six Souderton elementary schools are meeting on Saturday mornings this month in preparation for their upcoming performance in February. This year, the Honors Orchestra contains it’s largest group in six years with 105 string members and 3 percussionists! Sixteen are Vernfield students! While a few musicians are in their first year of playing, the majority of the orchestra contains students who have been playing for at least two years. Please join us for the performance taking place on Saturday, February 3rd at 2:00 PM followed by a light reception.

Election 2018

All of our Home and School Board positions are up for election for the next school year! We are looking for a President, Vice President of Fundraising, Vice President of Communications, Treasurer I, Treasurer II, and a Secretary. At our Home and School meeting on Monday, we voted to change our bylaws to hold our election in March rather than May to allow for a transition period between the two teams. Prime Time Reading (Grades K-2)

Prime Time Reading Night is coming up on Friday, February 9th from 6-8PM for our K-2 students. The theme this year is "Reading Makes Dreams Come True". Students are welcome to wear their pajamas, but will need appropriate footwear and clothing for a Gym activity. You will also want to bring your favorite book, a flashlight and a blanket.

Name the Cafeteria Challenge

The students of Vernfield have been charged with naming the school cafeteria! Students are being encouraged to share their ideas, which will be voted on soon. Stay tuned for the results of this fun project!

Thank you to our Family Fun Night Committee, Caitlin Siegfried and Autumn Wright, and all of the volunteers that made Candy Bar Bingo a success! We had over 300 people attend and a fun time was had by all. Thank you to all of the teachers and staff who helped call numbers. The students loved seeing you there!

Yearbook (Spring 2018 and future)

The Yearbook Committee is looking for help with the Spring 2018 Yearbook as well as someone to begin learning how to put together the yearbook when the current staff 'graduates'. The students love receiving a yearbook, and it is a great way to preserve memories from year to year. If you are interested, please contact Sandra Esposito at

Pod Parents (Summer 2018)

Our Pod Parent committee needs a new chair for the 2018-2019 school year. Pod parents are volunteers that help teachers with many 'start up' tasks during the first week of school, which include copying, cutting, labeling, sorting, etc. The main role of the chair of this committee is create a Sign-up genius to send to interested parents. Sound of Music Jr. (Feb 1-3)

Indian Crest Middle School is pleased to present their school musical, The Sound of Music (Jr).

Free Family Program (Wednesdays, Feb 7 - Mar 21)

The Indian Valley Character Counts Coalition (IVCCC) is offering a free "Family Night Out" program for parents and youth ages 10 - 14 at Indian Crest Middle School. The program, dinner, child care for younger siblings, raffles and prizes are all provided free of charge. You and your children will learn skills to help your family succeed during the teen years. Wednesdays 5:30 - 8:00 PM for seven weeks beginning February 7th. Registration is required by contacting Donna Lea Pyrz at or 215-723-3569, ext. 116. FBLA Valentine's Babysitting Event (Feb 10th)

This event gives you the opportunity to have a few hours of uninterrupted time for Valentine's Day. We will offer fun games, activities, crafts, and a movie for your children. Children are encouraged to wear their pajamas for the event. Our event will be supervised by student members of Future Business Leaders of America and high school staff. Souderton Area Community Education (SACE) (Winter/Spring)
