Cameron Ranch Falcon Connection
February 1, 2021 #falconstrong
Falcon Families,
Change
In the video below, I share a book about Change, something we've been experiencing together at a rapid pace over the past several months. It is important for children (and adults) to understand that change happens to all of us. By talking about the feelings that change creates, children can process and navigate the turbulent times with supportive adults. Within the collective wave of emotions connected to the unknown, be gentle with yourself. My hope is that you will share this book with your children. Warmly, Aliceon Sloss
Student Engagement
Virtual learning burn-out is very real and we recognize how difficult it continues to be each and every day that our schools remain closed. We encourage all students to be empowered to do their best. "EnGAMEment" games for student engagement will be rewarded to students who reach their individual goals between February and May. Engagement can look like: sharing and responding in class, attending lunch time zooms, showing work, completing daily assignments, moving up a level in reading, completing iReady minutes, following zoom rules, having cameras on during morning meetings, etc. Teachers will share more with individual classes.
Parent Leadership Academy:
The Family and Community Engagement Department will be hosting a virtual session of Parent Leadership Academy in multiple languages starting February 3rd, 2021. Parent Leadership Academy is a 6-week parent education series that empowers families to gain a greater understanding of our educational system, current district initiatives, and parent leadership opportunities. Classes will take place every Wednesday from 6pm - 7:30pm via Zoom. The Zoom log-in information will be posted at www.sanjuan.edu/familiesmatter 30 minutes prior to the start of the meetings.
Chromebook Care:
Helpful tips for Chromebook Care: https://youtu.be/iZbvKhEhmkg
The District is receiving a high number of damaged Chromebooks and families could be financially responsible for replacements and repairs. Please use this opportunity to remind your children about the proper way to care for District issued technology.
Transitional Kindergarten Update
In order to ensure the safety of the public, families, and employees, Transitional Kindergarten Enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year will be conducted as a lottery. We encourage families to participate in the Transitional Kindergarten Lottery application process which will be posted to the San Juan Enrollment website starting on February 22, 2021 at 8am and will run through March 12, 2021 5pm. Please visit https://www.sanjuan.edu/Page/6874 for Transitional Kindergarten information. On February 22nd there will be a live link to an online application and access to a printable application. Applications will also be available at San Juan Central Enrollment, 3700 Garfield Ave, Carmichael. The lottery drawing results will be mailed to families the week of March 22, 2021. Families may email enrollment@sanjuan.edu or call 916-SAN-JUAN (726-5826) with questions.
