Bristow Run ES Panther Press
February 2021
Dear Panther Families,
Can you feel it? Love is in the air! February is an ideal time to reflect on and celebrate the people we care about, love and are grateful for. Those who are a part of our daily lives at work and school are certainly included in these celebrations. Without a doubt, we know that the greatest and most beautiful things in this world cannot be seen or even heard but must be felt with the heart. Perhaps now, more than ever, we have been reminded that the best thing to hold onto in life is each other. We have rediscovered the importance of togetherness and family. People. Life is all about people. We need people who think of us, look out for us, accept us, bring out the best in us and challenge us to be the best us we can possibly be. In return, we need to be that person for them. To our students, parents and staff, you are those people for us. You are our BRES Family and we are so very grateful! We celebrate you and it continues to be our honor to serve as your principals! We encourage you to spend some time this month thinking about and finding ways to celebrate those you care about, love and are grateful for.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Mrs. Jeck and Mrs. Ball

Bristow Run's Virtual Learning Handbook
Information from School Nurse: Mrs. Antonucci
If your child becomes sick at school with any Covid-19 and/or influenza-like symptoms that cannot be attributed to another known diagnosis, you will be called and asked to take your child home.
It is extremely important to review and complete your child’s emergency card. Please be sure all phone numbers are accurate and up to date. Notify the school immediately should your contact information change.
Parents are asked to evaluate their students for symptoms of illness each day before sending them to school. If your child has any of the following symptoms, please do not send them to school: fever greater than or equal to 100.4, cough, difficulty breathing, loss of sense of taste or smell, sore throat, nasal congestion/nasal discharge, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle aches, fatigue, chills, or headache.
If your child has been exposed to someone who has tested positive and it's been determined that he/she is a close contact, your child will need to quarantine at home for 14 days and may return to in-person learning on day 15 providing they have no symptoms.
It is important for me to know if a student is a close contact or has tested positive, even if they are virtual learners. Please call or email me with questions or to provide medical updates regarding your child.

Welcome Ms. Foelsch, Our New Art Teacher
Hello, Bristow Run Community!
I have had the best time getting to know all the students and seeing some amazing student artwork. We have finished our Shape Creatures Unit (K-2), and Superheroes Unit (3-5). All the students came up with some fantastic stories to go with their characters. Ask your student to tell you about their creature or superhero.
I’m so proud of the students, both those in the classroom and those at home, who are making the best of this situation by remaining enthusiastic and creative. I look forward to continuing to get to know your student.
Stay creative!
Ms. Foelsch
We LOVE this wonderful BRES student art work!

Music News from Mr. M
I hope everyone has been enjoying these snow days, I know I have. This month we look forward to doing some really cool things in music.
- Kindergarten and 1st grade will be playing a music "among us" style game.
- 2nd grade will continue to be master composers with new rhythms.
- 3rd and 4th grade will receive recorder order forms later this month so we can get to play some instruments.
- 5th grade will be learning about the instrument families and what puts them in the families!
We LOVE this Among Us game that Mr. Marrero created!
PE News from Mrs. Francis & Mr. Nenni
The past nine weeks in physical education have included fitness challenges, virtual visits to Disney World, celebrating the winter season, and participating in video games to name a few. It’s great to see more Panthers back in the building with us! We love interacting with them and appreciate their efforts in PE.
A big thank you to the upper grades for working on our fitness challenges. It has not been easy, and we are grateful for the students participating and recording their scores. We will continue to build on our fitness skills and challenge ourselves again in the spring.
The Winter Olympics, Superbowl, Black History Month, and Valentine's Day are some of the themed lessons we have planned for the month of February.
Have a Heart Healthy Month!!
Mrs. Francis and Mr. Nenni
We LOVE seeing students so excited for PE!
Updates from Mrs. Leischner & Mrs. MacWhorter
School Counselors have been teaching students during the library encore time and have also been doing counseling groups. If your child needs a counseling group, please contact us at leischma@pwcs.edu. We currently have virtual groups held via zoom in the areas of work habits, social skills, no place for hate and positivity (helping to make our school even better).
In February, we will be teaching grades 4, 5, K, and 1 during their encore time. In School Counseling Class, Kindergarten students will be learning about the importance of having good attendance. Grades K and 1 will also be learning about careers. Grades 4 and 5 we will continue to talk about kindness and bullying.
Did you know that... Bullying is defined as repeated mean behavior (physical, social/emotional, cyber) that occurs over and over and is one-sided. If students see bullying they are asked to tell a trusted adult. All grades will continue to learn about mindfulness.
We LOVE supporting students and families! We LOVE being your school counselors!
BRES Morning Announcements
Thank you 5th Grade News Crew Team for continuing to do a great job on the news each day! Our student announcers film their own news segments so that our Panthers can start their day with morning announcements every Tuesday through Friday. Our morning announcements share a book talk from Mrs. Tucker and a mindful moment each day. Thank you News Crew! Keep up the awesome work!

Technology News from Mr. Painter
As we thaw out from the weekend, it's a good time to talk more about Digital Citizenship for our students. Internet safety is important, especially in this environment. Some things to keep in mind as we go into the 3rd 9 weeks:
Your child's password and username: This is a good time to focus on helping your child memorize and enter their login credentials on their own. As they grow into adults and have health and financial information stored on the internet, this will be an important 21st-century skill.
If something is said or done online that makes your child uncomfortable, remind them to tell a parent or a trusted adult immediately. Please do not respond to any e-mail or text that makes them uncomfortable. The internet remembers and knows who you are. Please remind your child not to say or post anything that they know is not appropriate.
We LOVE this video from Common Sense Media!
