Language Arts
- Reading: We focused on fact and opinion while reading a story called "Coming Distractions" about special effects in movies. We also focused on summarizing our story.
- Writing: Students wrapped up their fictional narrative stories. We started writing an informational paragraph by focusing on word choice.
- Grammar: We worked on verb tenses this week.
- Spelling: Vowel sounds with "oo" in bloom and brook.
Math
This week in math, students learned how to multiply a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number using the distributive property. They also learned how to multiply a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number using expanded form. These skills are preparing students for multiplication with regrouping.
Science and Social Studies
- Science: This week in science we wrapped up our lesson on how plants respond to their environment. Student presented their section with an iMovie. We started a new unit learning about animal digestion and circulation.
- Social Studies: This week in social studies we continued our unit on the Northeast. We learned about the geography of the Northeast region. We talked about the Pilgrims and how they formed a democracy before getting off the Mayflower by drafting the Mayflower Compact. We also learned about early industry in the region and talked about mass production.

Emmet County Transfer Station
We are taking our field trip to the Transfer Station on Tuesday, Nov. 10. If you sent in a note indicating you would be able to chaperone, I am planning on it. Thank you!! We will be leaving Shay at12:30pm and returning just before 3. Be sure to ask your kiddo what they learned during this field trip - it's packed full of great information!
