History of Day of the Dead

Day of the Dead originated centuries ago in Mexico where it is still celebrated today. This holiday is a blend of pre-Hispanic and Spanish catholic beliefs. Many other countries celebrate similar versions of this holiday like special days of honoring the dead. These celebrations occur in various countries in Central and South America, Europe, and Asia. Day of the Dead has also become popular in areas with a high Mexican immigrant population, especially in California, Texas, Arizona and other parts of the United States. A lot of people celebrate this holiday. This holiday is to celebrate family and friends who have passed away. This is Mexico's most famous holiday. Day of the Dead is on November 1st and 2nd every year. People celebrate Day of the Dead to honor and pray for the ones who have passed away. This day allows the dead to live again. The Day of the Dead is celebrated as a way of keeping a connection with the unseen world. It is believed this is a world we will all return to one day.

Altars

Altars are to honor the people who have passed away. Family and friends make these on the Day of the Dead to honor their loved ones. The altars are constructed with love and care. They are also very beautiful and have a lot of different things on it. Altars are usually arranged on top of a table or it is built from stacks of crates. Altars have at least two levels. The table is draped with cloth or sometimes paper or plastic covering. Usually, there is an arch with marigolds on top of the altar. There are also candles, incense, salt, bread, and a photo of the person who has passed away. These altars are one of the most popular traditions during the Day of the Dead.
