Monday News and Notes

December 8, 2014

Congratulations!

Please join me in congratulating Charmaine as she has announced her retirement effective this June. Charmaine has provided the district with many years of outstanding, dedicated service. She has touched many lives and made a tremendous difference to so many. While I wish her well, it will be a big loss to JHE and she will be missed.

Best wishes are also extended to Mrs. Thompkins (AKA Amy Trigg) as she was recently married. Congratulations and I wish you many years of happiness.

Luncheon/UGLY Sweater Contest

Once again Sunshine Club pay 1/2 the cost of the luncheon. If you wish to join in please provide Barb with $5.00 and Sunshine will pay the other $5.00. All food is from Auggie's. There is a sign up sheet in the office. Please mark your preference(s) when you come down so I have an idea on how much of each entree to order. It was also suggested that we have an UGLY Christmas sweater challenge on this day. Please check off if you are interested in participating so I know how many categories to create and select the prizes.

Reading Discussions

I have asked Stephanie to meet with grades K-3 to discuss reading programs, areas for improvement, areas of strengths etc... She will also meet with AIS reading staff to gain additional insight. Grades K and 2 have also visited schools using modules to get a different perspective. At the end of January I will be using STAR results in addition to benchmark data ( I will collect this from each teacher K-3) to gauge effectiveness of what we are currently doing. At this point, I will also review recommendations from Stephanie's discussion with classroom teachers and AIS to formulate a plan for the future.
