Our Newsletter for Families of Oakdale Elementary 9-5-21
Greetings Oakdale Families!
REMINDER: DUE TO LABOR DAY - THERE IS NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH. Enjoy the extra day spending time with your families. We are excited to see you all again on Tuesday, September 7th.
Important Note around Morning Drop-off procedures
Starting on Tuesday, September 7th, we need ALL families to follow the morning drop off procedures and only drop off students at our designated drop off area (not at the front of the building). Please see the document linked below for a map. We will have staff stationed at the parking lot entrances to support families with finding the morning drop off location. Morning drop off is from 8:40 - 8:50.

Educational Benefits Application
Please see below, and complete this form, if you haven’t done so already. Thank you! We appreciate your support!!!
Every ISD 622 family should complete an Application for Educational Benefits. The application helps us identify families who need assistance, not only with meals, but also may provide families discounted rates on athletics and activities fees, and testing fees, among others. Completed applications also allow District 622 to receive funding for classroom programming. This funding helps us stretch our local dollars further.
Families must complete a new form each school year. Also, families who have completed an application and have experienced a change in household income or size are encouraged to complete a new application. The online application process is SAFE, SECURE, PRIVATE, and AVAILABLE anytime, anywhere!
When you are on the Titan School Solutions website, click on the APPLY for MEALS button, you do not need to LOG IN.
Click here for the online application.
Current COVID procedures/protocols for 2021-2022 school year
Per district guidelines, all students, families and staff (regardless of vaccination status) will be required to wear masks inside the school. Along with hand washing, we will be utilizing hand sanitizer within our school as a way to minimize the spread of germs. If there is a reason your child is unable to use hand sanitizer, please contact our Health Office at 651-702-8515. Here are the 622's current guidelines around quarantining. Quarantining Guidelines If you would like to read more about our school/district's health guidelines and procedures, you can find that information here. 21-22 Health Guidelines
COVID safety procedures note: Families entering the building
Below is a message that was recently shared with administrators from our Superintendent around visitors in our schools.
In an effort to reduce the spread of COVID, District 622 is limiting visitor access to school buildings. Masked parents/visitors can come into the school office if they have questions or paperwork to fill out. They can also come into the building when signing their child in or out of school. However, parents and visitors will not be allowed to visit/ volunteer in classrooms or lunchrooms where large groups of students are gathered.
We will revisit this visitor guidance again once our local COVID case rates have fallen and vaccinations rates have improved.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

Meet some of Oakdale's new staff members
Getting to know...Mrs. Marty (Dean)
I am very humbled and honored to introduce myself as the new Dean of Students at Oakdale Elementary. My name is Jennifer Marty and this 21-22 school year will be my 24th year in education. Although I am an educator, I am also a wife to Kirk and a mother to my two son's Brady(18) and William(11).
I firmly believe that every child can exceed and that the cooperation between home and school builds trust and self-esteem in students. As Dean, I am devoted to continually exploring new ideas to meet the needs of all students and to collaborate with students, staff and families to achieve our goals. I look forward to meeting many of you throughout the year as I serve your students and you.
I can’t wait to celebrate our collective successes during the 2021-2022 school year.
Respectfully -
Jen Marty
Getting to know...Mrs Vang (EL Teacher)
Nyob zoo! I'm so excited to be here at Oakdale. My name is Danuta Vang, I am one of the English Learner teachers. My office is located in the library if you're looking for me. This year is my 2nd year in the district. I came from Skyview Elementary and before that I was a Test/Assessment Coordinator at a K-12 charter school for almost 6.5 years.
I grew up in Carmel, Indiana and met my husband here in Minnesota. We have a daughter named Olivia. She is 18 months old. I love being crafty, especially starting projects but never finishing them. My favorite outdoor activity is ice fishing!
Getting to know...Mrs. Leigh (Behavior Intervention Specialist)
Hello, I am so excited to join the Oakdale Elementary team! My name is Merodie Leigh, I have been working in Behavioral health and education for 5 years and I love helping kiddos to understand and grow through social and emotional learning.
My husband and I have three children and, although I am a Wisconsin native, my family and I recently moved from the Pacific Northwest, where we lived for the last 15 years. I love hiking, camping, music and insane projects. My husband and I are currently working on building our house out of timbers that we are logging from our property in Wisconsin.
I have heard so many wonderful things about the staff and kids here at Oakdale and can’t wait to meet the kids!
