A Manatee is "a large gray or brown aquatic mammal". "During summer months, they may migrate as far north as coastal Virginia on the east coast and the Louisiana coast on the Gulf of Mexico. " Manatees live in both salt and fresh waters, and they "They may be encountered in canals, rivers, estuarine habitats, saltwater bays, and on occasion have been observed as much as 3.7 miles off the Florida Gulf coast."

The Manatee is endangered due to "Over-exploitation, Powerboat collisions, and Coastal development. " Conservation acts include protected areas, tourism, research, and citizen involvement".
