News and Notes from Clever 6-8 Middle School October 2020

Message From the Principal!

Dear CMS Families,

It’s hard to believe that we are already approaching the end of the first quarter on October 23rd. As our first quarter comes to a close, many classes are tying up loose ends with projects and assessments. Students with poor academic grades and behavioral marks will be placed on ineligibility lists. Those students become ineligible to participate in sports, clubs, or other activities during the second quarter. We don’t want any students on these lists! Please help us with this and remind your students to put forth their best effort at school each day.

Students will receive their first quarter grade cards on Wednesday, October 28th. These will be our normal standard based report cards along with a student reflection sheet, and their Fall NWEA achievement levels. We encourage you to take a few minutes to review these documents with your child. Students that return a signed reflection form will be entered into a drawing for cool prizes.

While the school year looks different this year, we are excited about being on campus and are grateful to have the opportunity to work with your children day in and day out.

Fall Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences, like just about everything else this year, are going to look a little different. We will not be inviting students and their parents/guardians into the school building to conference about the first quarter of the school year. Instead, students will be completing self-reflections much like they have done in the past. They will be bringing these reflections home to you along with their first quarter grade cards. This will provide the student-led structure for a conversation at home about our first quarter of the school year.

Additionally, parents/guardians will have the opportunity to conference virtually with teachers. If you would like to conference with one or more of your student's teachers along with your student, please complete the attached form. The teacher(s) will then contact you to schedule a virtual conference via zoom.

Thank you for your continued understanding and support as we navigate this unique school year!

Parent Teacher Conference Request Form

Forms will need to be filled out seperately for each child at the 6-8 level.

Red Ribbon Week Oct. 27-30

Big picture

Christian County Library Card Drive

The Christian County Library has made it even easier to sign up for a library card. A library card gives you access to not only books, DVDs, and audiobooks, but to a great deal of online resources as well. With your library card, you can instantly borrow free digital movies, music, eBooks and audiobooks. There are numerous research tools and online courses as well.

Here’s the great news – All Clever students can sign up for a library card for free, even if you don’t live in Christian County! Every person in your house is eligible – just fill out an application for each family member. This is a wonderful opportunity for you and your families!

Between now and November 5th, the Christian County Library is holding a card drive. The school with the highest percentage of new library card applications will receive a gift of $200 for their school library. The applications will be processed, the library cards will be delivered to our school, and then I will distribute them.

The link and the directions are posted below. Sign up today! (Students under the age of 16 must have a parent or guardian's signature on the application.)
