General News!
Week of March 7th-11th:
This week is the final week of the 3rd Quarter, please remind your students to be double checking their PowerSchool accounts for missing assignments, and getting them turned in.
As we get ready to go into our last quarter, please do a quick supply check with your child. We have MANY students who are coming to class daily without the proper supplies for class. In general we do not mind lending someone a pencil, or some paper, but unfortunately these supplies are often not returned at the end of the class period, and we need them for other students throughout our day...
I have included a brief section from Mrs. Brimhall's recent newsletter...If you have not already completed this survey, it would be greatly appreciated if you did. Thanks!
Please help SMMS better serve you!
In the spring of each year, all Camden County Schools send out the Title I Parent Survey. ALL students in Camden County schools are Title I students. Each school uses this survey to adjust what services are offered to parents, how information is distributed, and many other things. The more parents who fill out the survey, the better information we get.
Please take just a few minutes to fill out the FY16 Title I Parent Survey at the link below for St. Marys Middle School. Answers are anonymous unless you want to provide your contact information. Next week, a paper version will be coming home with your child. Please only fill out one version of the survey. (These went home today...hot pink paper)

Language Arts- Ms. Waxman
This week is a Mastery Assessment week for language arts. We will be testing our writing portion on Wednesday, and our Reading skills on Thursday. Please be sure your students are in class and ready to go, so that we can see their best performance.
During the next few weeks we will be focusing our energies on reviewing the skills sets necessary for success on the Georgia Milestones. Some of this time will be spent on having the students become more comfortable with completing their tasks in limited timeframes. This is often a struggle for them particularly with writing tasks. They need to read, organize their thoughts, determine appropriate textual evidence to use as support, and produce a final product. This requires practice to become comfortable with.
We will move our "root word" study onto suffixes meaning "It's Like": al, ine, and ous, all meaning like, or pertaining to. Study Stack will be available for study and practice at home.
This is our last week of TweenTribune for this quarter. I will keep you posted about Independent Reading requirements for the last quarter next week.
Math- Mrs. Holloway
This Week in Mathematics:
Happy Monday. We will be finishing up scatter plots and two-way tables this week. I am aiming to have the mastery assessment on the 15th and 16th. The constructive response will be on the 15th and the multiple choice on the 16th. Students will also be receiving their Volume 1 textbook back on Tuesday. In class we will be marking important parts that students can begin looking back to prepare for the EOG test. I will suggest to students to read over the sections and examples each evening and write any questions they may have about the material. If they do it often, it will become familiar again. I do not want students to spend hours on it each night, but look over and practice. Students will have homework each night from now on. Students will also be given an assignment of review questions that will be due a week from the day it was assigned. I’ll remind you as I do the students that I am here each day by 6:50 am. They only have to ask to have their planner signed the day before for them to come down for one on one help or practice. Please feel free to email if you have any questions.
Social Studies- Mr. Salser
This week we will begin to focus on the modern Georgia civil rights movement, the tumultuous period after World War II, and the growth and development of modern Georgia. We will emphasize the life Martin Luther King Jr., President Jimmy Carter, and the showcase of Atlanta the 1996 Olympic games.
Science- Mr. Anderson
This week we finish up magnetism with a test on Tuesday. Students will use a study guide created in class that may be used on the test if they choose. Beginning Wednesday, we start the study of electricity, which includes the difference between series and parallel circuits, how batteries work and safety of electricity. As of now, we are aiming for a mastery assessment right before spring break, and that is only a few weeks away!
