News from the Kindergarten Class

Jump Rope for Heart

We had a Jump Rope Kickoff assembly on Monday. Mr. Buechel talked to the grades about how important it is to keep our hearts healthy. He also explained what all the donations go towards - helping heart research!

In addition to the already great incentive of donating money to heart research, the school has some pretty sweet incentives.

If you get $25 worth of donations - Duct tape Mr. Buechel during the Jump Rope for Heart Assembly

If you get $100 (and multiples of $100) worth of donations - Pie Mr. Buechel in the face

If all students in the class bring in a donation, they will get to participate in a class water balloon fight!

The class with the highest amount of money raised will get to silly string their teacher!

Let me know if you need another packet and I'll get one to you!!!

St. Paddy's Day

Murphy the Leprechaun stopped by in our classroom an wreaked havoc on it when they were in art.

He left clues around the room to find a treasure. It ended up that he left us some gold Rolos!!!

Reading and Writing

The kiddos have been learning about how to add more meaning to "Read to Someone" time. This week, they learned that they can use visual information (pictures) to help their discussion. They learned that they can point, label, and comment on the visual information. Many of them were already doing this, so now they know the official terms!

They wrapped up their prompt journals and are happy to be back to their regular journals. I've seen a lot of improvement since the last one! Check out some of the writing samples below!

We took our measurement test on Thursday. All of the kids did very well on it! They have a great understanding of length, height, width, and capacity,

After break, we will start our chapter on classifying objects.

Oviparous Animals

They learned about oviparous animals (animals that hatch from eggs). They did an animal sort and some were surprised by which animals hatch from eggs!

We talked about the life cycles of frogs and chickens.

Shortly after break, we will start incubating eggs in the classroom. They'll be able to see the chicks hatch!
