JUST ANOTHER RAINY DAY IN HSB!
During rainy periods such as this, it is very important for our lake at HSB to be well-managed, in order to maintain a constant lake level. The Lake Management Committee is responsible for monitoring weather forecasts closely so that water can proactively be released from the lake's valve system, based on rainfall predictions, in order to maintain an appropriate lake level. BIG thanks to the members on the LMC team who volunteer to do this important work for our community!

HOWDY NEIGHBOR!
MEET LARRY & JUDY BRANTON!
Our family consists of a blended family of 5 children, and 8 grandkids. Judy’s son, Shawn is also a resident of HSB. Larry’s passions are riding motorcycles and working in the yard. His motorcycle rides have taken him out of state many times, including Sturgis, Tail of the Dragon in the Smokey Mountains, states out west and one of his favorites, the Ozark Mountains. If the weather permits, Larry is always working on a project in our yard. Judy fondly calls him “the dirt man”. Judy has a passion for animals and is currently on the BOD for Friends of the Winnsboro Animal shelter where she enjoys organizing fund raising events. She keeps busy with activities at Grace Fellowship Ministries and Republican Women of Wood County. One of Judy’s goals is to return to New Zealand for another visit.
As chairman and co-chairman of the Horseshoe Bend Maintenance & Improvement Committee we strive to maintain the beautiful HSB space and make needed improvements. We are new to this committee and constantly learning what it takes to keep this wonderful place beautiful. In the few short months since taking over we have found it to be a very challenging committee. The year 2022 will be our last year to work as the committee leads and hope to pass it on to the next chair in great shape.
Great neighbors = a great neighborhood! Thank you to Larry & Judy for being great neighbors and for all you do to serve our community!

The water lilies at Horseshoe Bend are in full bloom now and they instantly enhance the quiet beauty of our lake with their rounded leaves and starry flowers floating on the surface.
While there are only a couple of different species of water lilies at our lake. there are actually a wide variety of different lilies that bloom in different regions of our country and a few more interesting facts about these amazing flowers that may surprise you:
- Their leaves can be cup-shaped, star-shaped, and smooth or jagged.
- Water lilies actually grow in a rainbow of colors, including pink, red, orange, yellow, purple, and blue.
- Water lilies help our environment because because they provide shade above the water, keeping it cooler and preventing algae that thrives in heat from growing in excess. Water lilies also help shelter fish swimming beneath them from the heat of the sun and predatory birds.
- There are over 50 species of water lilies and the largest, known as the Giant Lily, can grow to have a diameter of 3-6 feet wide and can support up to 66 pounds of weight.
