Kellogg Video Conferences
On Friday, you should have received an email invitation to view Kellogg Video Conferences for your child.
Here’s how it works:
- Review your child’s schedule in Skyward, or sit down with your child to talk through their schedule.
- Then select links in the email OR on the Kellogg Portal.
- If, after watching the videos, you would still like to schedule a time for a virtual conference on December 10 (late afternoon or evening), please complete this form: Video Conference Request Form
While we know that in-person conferences are more desirable, we hope that our accommodations have provided you with helpful class information from teachers while keeping your family safe. As always, we appreciate your patience and support!
Important Comet Notes
As our grade level teams continue to problem solve, looking for the best way to support students in the Distance Learning environment, the 8th grade team has decided to take a new approach with Advisory. Beginning this last week, the last Advisory day of the week, Advisors will meet with students to check Skyward and see how things are going. Based on the student's performance, they will send students to the virtual classroom of the teacher they need to see most. This means that Advisory might be longer or shorter, depending on the need. This is a required time for students, so please remind your 8th grader that their attendance is expected. They are to remain in the assigned Google Classroom until they are explicitly dismissed by the teacher.
- Save the date: Our next Kellogg Principal Chat is set for December 14 at 9am, 2pm and 7pm.
- Is your Comet in need of extra academic support? A Mayo High School student has created an organization called Living Room Tutors to help meet this need for RPS students. They have a team of volunteers just waiting to help your child with academics! Learn more using this link: https://livingroomtutors.org/
Keyboarding
Keyboarding skills have undoubtedly been necessary during this distance learning period. To practice those keyboarding skills, https://www.typingclub.com/ is a fantastic (and free!) web-based tool for students to use.
- Go to https://www.typingclub.com/
- Click on "Get Started"
- In the upper right corner, click "Save Progress"
- Click "Sign up with Google"
- Students should use their isd535.org account
- You'll see a box that says "Typing Jungle" - click "Start"
- Start Lesson 1

From your Kellogg Team
Greetings,
Your 8th grade counselor, Mr. Van Winkle here. We are in a very difficult time right now, many months into a pandemic, winter looming, and in the dog days of distance learning. Winter 2020 will bring very unique challenges to not only our students, but us adults as well. We are starting to merge pandemic/isolation depression and anxiety with winter/holiday depression and anxiety. This will increase depression like symptoms, which can range from moodiness, to suicidal ideation and everything in between.
Given this reality, we want to make sure you are aware of signs so you can be proactive. The attached article will help you understand what to be looking for in the months.
Please know, you are not alone with these struggles. Many other families are experiencing similar hardships. Please contact us ASAP if you have any concerns for yourself or your students. We are here to help.
Free Consultation
Rochester Public Schools recognizes that we are all experiencing increased stress and worry during this time. In response, RPS is now providing free virtual consultations to help address worries you might have about your child’s mental wellness. Visit https://rochestermnschedule.as.me/ to schedule a 45 minute appointment with a trained mental health provider to discuss your concerns. These consultations can help you clarify what help your child might need and think about next steps. The mental health provider you meet with can connect you with resources for help. What is discussed during the consultation is confidential.
