Change in School Start Time 2023
Every 5 Years all school are required to undertake an intensive School Registration Audit, mandated by the government.
I am very pleased to announce that PCPS passed this rigorous assessment with flying colour colours.
Only one item needs adjusting and that is our school hours. Commencing 2023, our school start time will be 8.40am instead of 8.45am. So please adjust your alarm clocks in the new year!
Reports
I have been enjoying reading the children reports and am very impressed with the results achieved overall. The children have certainly been working extremely hard and should be very proud of their efforts. Reports will be issued in Week 9.
Annual Community Meeting
On Wednesday evening we held our Annual Community Meeting for the Advisory Council and P&F.
There is a great team of parents who make up our very enthusiastic and keen P&F.
I thank the Executive for their outstanding effort this year in their first year They have weathered COVID at the beginning of the year and the transition with the new Terms of Reference. Well done to Cathy, Megann, Sara and Severine.
This year we have continued to be surrounded by a keen, positive and truly vibrant P&F committee who continue to give so much of their time to lead a range of portfolios. All P&F Portfolio holders and committee members have worked together seamlessly as a team to enrich our school community and provide for the children, staff and parents.
I thank you for all your hard work in organizing a variety of spiritual, social, fundraising and parent education events this year – a brilliant effort.
Although technically it does not come under the P&F, I would like to say a special thank you to Kylie Giles for operating the uniform shop for the last four years and for assisting in the transition to JFE.
I look forward to working with the P&F in 2023.
My sincere thanks to all 2022 Advisory Council members for your contribution and dedication during the year.
My sincere gratitude and thanks to Father Cyprian and Father Francis who provide spiritual guidance to us all at PCPS throughout the year.
My sincere thanks to all 2022 Catholic School Advisory Council members for your contribution and dedication during the year and for always having the children at the forefront of your decisions. Your commitment has been very much appreciated. Particular thanks to Gianni Da Rui for undertaking the role of Chair and for your never-ending support of the Leadership Team. It is truly appreciated.
SCHOOL FEES 2023
There is great news regarding PCPS school fees for the 2023 academic year, just in time to brighten your family’s Christmas.
PCPS has been approved to keep our school fees the same, despite rising inflation which is impacting all of us. This is made possible as a result of changes to the overall funding for Catholic schools in Western Australia.
As a result, and in consultation with Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA), the PCPS Advisory Council has endorsed the decision that school fees are to remain the same for 2023.
Catholic Education in WA provides an affordable school choice for more WA families than ever, and our school remains committed to providing the high quality, Christ-centred and child-focused education that our families have come to expect.
I hope families will welcome this news as indicative of our school’s commitment to meeting your family’s needs. We are strongly committed to delivering the highest quality education alongside our other programmes in 2023 and beyond.
2022 School Fees Due Now
The Advisory Council would like to thank those families who have paid their school fees and are up to date. Should you have any outstanding fees, please pay these by 24 November unless other arrangements have been confirmed with the school.
There are a number of methods in which families at the school can pay their school fees. These include credit card, EFTPOS, cash, cheque, direct debit and internet banking.
As per the school fee policy, the Advisory Council Finance Committee may take action to recover any unpaid fees through a debt collection agency which may in turn affect your future credit ratings.
If you need to discuss your fee payments or wish to check on your amount outstanding please email admin@padcath.wa.edu.au and include subject line Attention: Admin Officer Helen Hughes
Class Groupings 2023
Teachers will soon be looking at class groupings for 2023.
Many factors are considered when selecting class placements for students and each child’s best interests are the main priority when these decisions are made. Class placements are a team decision made in consultation with both the year level teachers. Teachers spend a lot of time and give great consideration to the placement of children and I believe that their professionalism should be respected. Consideration for placement is made using the following criteria: Gender; Pastoral/Social/Emotional; Special Needs e.g. special education, twins, etc; Academic ability; Relationships etc.
Every effort is made to place children where it is felt they will have the greatest opportunity to succeed. All teachers at PCPS are very professional and of an excellent standard and children will receive a high quality of education no matter which class they are placed with.
If your child has special pastoral needs which may need consideration, please ensure that you have made a time to meet with your child’s class teacher before Monday 28 November.
Parents should understand that requests may be considered however it does not mean that they necessarily come to fruition. The final decision remains with the class teachers and Leadership Team who have the overall picture in mind for the cohort as a whole.
Requesting a certain teacher is not a consideration.
Once class groupings are finalised they will not be changed so please do not contact the teachers, Leadership Team or the office after the cut-off date nor once you receive details about your child’s class.
It is good for families to know placements for the following year so that they are able to arrange for children to get together over the holidays if they wish. Parents will be notified of their child’s teacher via SEQTA on Friday 16 December.
Transition
At PCPS we have a thorough handover procedure between the staff for the end of the year and also a transition programme for all classes which has been highly beneficial. This will take place on 2 December.
Children will move up a year level for the morning and spend some time with year level teachers. The Pre-primary classes will have additional parts to their transition programme to ensure that the children have been well prepared for the move to the ‘big part of the school’. Mrs Fisher, our social worker, will also be on hand to assist, not only at the beginning of the year but also during the year, with transitioning.
Staffing 2023 update
Congratulations to Mrs Megan Woodall who has been successful in gaining an Assistant Principal role at St Francis Jordan in Currambine from 2023. Mrs Woodall has been at PCPS for 12 years as a classroom teacher and having recently completed her Masters, she is now ready to take on a leadership position. We wish her all the best in her new school.
Therefore there has been a recent change to the staffing since the ACM on Wednesday night and Mrs Helen Bubnich will be teaching Year 4 in 2023.

Sustainability
There is a million reasons to love garlic. It’s so useful in the kitchen, as well as in the garden. The Pre Primary students planted cloves last term. They have been waiting patiently watering, adding worm team and weeding the garden bed. This week it was time to see if it was ready to harvest. To our surprise we have plenty of garlic. We made garlic bread which was very tasty!
