The Lackamas Lightning Strike
Home of the Lightning... Learn Lead Succeed
Message from the Principal
Today, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude. To the postal workers, the healthcare industry, essential workers, farmers, families, teachers, and to everyone who is showing up and meeting the moment in 2020. You are resilient through difficult times, you are appreciated, and you are enough. There are so many celebrations at this time and I want to make sure to pause and be intentional about sharing the good with each other.
We are actively working on how we can safely increase the number of students in person. Stay tuned for updates on our next steps towards hybrid and other learning opportunities. We miss seeing your children and are excited to have them back.
Did you know, that 95% of Washington State is in remote learning? Yelm Community Schools currently provides small groups, in-person opportunities for:
- Special Education Students
- Disconnected Learners
- 5%of the student population in November were receiving in-person opportunities.
Lackamas Elementary is strongly focused on providing the best education possible to prepare our students for success during their school years and beyond. Our goal is to make learning relevant, challenging, and fun. Our highly qualified staff encourages students to become inquisitive, lifelong learners.
Your support of our teachers has been so appreciated during these pandemic times. We will continue to provide high-quality instruction and opportunities for students to connect with their peers virtually. We look forward to seeing our families at socially distanced activities like "Meet and Beep". Please know, your engagement with us virtually during conferences brought us so much joy. We want you to continue to reach out when you experience something that is tough so we can be a supportive resource in finding solutions.

PTO Recycling Programs to raise funds for Lackamas
Lackamas is going GREEN! The PTO has chosen a couple recycling programs for the school to participate in.
When: Recycle drop off will be on Monday's during lunch pick-up 11:30-1pm and at the monthly Meet and Beeps.
A recycling program that awards points per pound of recycling materials that turn into a money donation to the school once enough points are collected. We will begin by recycling juice pouches, Bunch O Ballons products and packaging, and Febreeze cartridges and packaging. Will continue all year!
Trex.com - The Plastic Recycling Challenge
Every year hundreds of schools across the nation compete against each other to recycle the most plastic film. In addition to providing a better understanding and appreciation for the importance of recycling, Trex will happily donate a high-performance composite bench to the winning school, and bestow honorary awards to every school that participates.
- The challenge begins each year on America Recycles Day, November 15, and lasts until April 15
- Winners are announced on Earth Day
Done specifically through the PTO. We will be turning all the crayons into something new to give back to students. We are accepting all kinds of crayons, broken and whole.
