Big picture

Self-Nurturing a Child Part

In your exploration of your inner system, you have found an exiled child part who needs sustained and reliable nurturing from your Self. This module provides an experience of doing this and instructions for repeated & ongoing connection and nurturing.

First, find cards 3A & 3B in the Self-Therapy Cards (in the mesh bag). These two cards summarize what happens in this module.

Take some time to get centered and Self-present. Use the skills you have learned in earlier modules. Picture the child part you are going to connect with and nurture. You may already have an index card made out for this part, but if you don't, you can do that now. What do you call this part? How old is he or she? Where are they in your image of them?

How close are you to them in that image? 10 feet, 5, sitting next to, hugging? See if there is anything keeping you from being close to the part, hugging, having your arm around them. Sometimes there are concerned parts, or protectors interfering, sometimes the child part shies away.

If there are protectors or concerned parts, acknowledge them and hear their concerns. Reassure them if you can, and get them to give you space to be connected with this child part.

If the child part itself shies away, allow it time and space while you hold your ground and let it know you care and want to help. How do you feel toward this part? Hopefully 8C's, especially compassion. If not there are additional protectors around. If so, allow that compassion to flow from your heart to the child part. It is positive healing energy, called Self-energy.

You don't have t do anything and the part doesn't need to do anything. Self-energy is inherently healing. Breathe. Let the part know all of this.

Imagine the energy flowing from your heart is like a warm fire and it radiates healing energy like heat in all directions. Just be with the part.

You can enhance this experience by holding an object that represents the part, such as a marble, fuzzy ball, or even one or both of the Teddy Bears in the room. Try this out. See if it helps to connect at a deeper level.

Notice in your body if you can feel where this part lives, and if at the same time you also feel warmth in your heart.

Read the book, You're Here for a Reason as though you are reading it to the part. It is a very positive and healing message.

Find some resources you think can be helpful for this part.

Another Cute Book

The Gift of Nothing is another very special little book that has a message about mindfulness and connection that is appropriate for sharing with your child parts.

Read it together.

Draw the Part

Do any of the exercises you have learned as though you are sharing and teaching it to the part.

Look in any of the books on Chakras and notice if this part is connected with any of the chakras, based on where it is in your body or it's particular function or behavior. Use the chakra stones and Reiki healing approaches to support and heal this part.

Do the module on EFT with this part as the focus.

Journal About What You Discover

There is scratch paper (recycled junk faxes on one side, blank on the other), writing pads, and sketch pads for you to use to make drawings and writing notes about your Healing Room experience. Take a moment at any time during your Modules, or at the end to do so.

You may also want to bring along your own private journal for this purpose.

Take Your Time/Repeat

All modules are intended to be done unhurried & at your own pace. The designated timeframes are really just a guess. If you don't finish the module you are doing in the allotted timeframe, just note where you left off and schedule another time where you can finish the module. It is also helpful to repeat modules and alter them for your own individual purposes.

Providing feedback in the private group blog at will help us make modifications in estimated time, and improve the overall experience of using The Healing Room.

Alternating Bilateral Stimulation

ABS helps with maintaining Self-Presence, the flow of information from part to Self, & integrating new perspectives that result from this exchange.

Remember, The Healing Room is set up with a stereo system that can provide audible Alternating Bilateral Stimulation (ABS) which is a component of EMDR therapy (Eye-Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing). The unique Alternating Bilateral Stimulation sample played continuously in The Healing Room is called Ocean Crossover and mimics ocean waves moving back and forth across the room at a gentle low volume in the background. It has a relaxing effect and supports the neural integration of new perspectives and healing of negatively charged memories, particularly when it is paired with specific tasks.

Having the ABS playing at a volume loud enough to hear it, but low enough that it seems to fade into the background while you learn these skills, is optimal.
