OSU Presidential Scholars

Congratulations Souyon Choi, Lily Xia, Marcel Kida and Max Lin for being rewarded the Oregon State's Presidential Scholarship!

Congratulations Robotics

Over the weekend, our robotics team, Team 1510 competed in the PNW Regional Event at the Clackamas Academy of Industrial Sciences. They were ranked 22/36 in the qualifying matches and they were picked to play in the quarter finals. The team, all Westview Students, put in a lot of effort, congratulations!

Access Tutorial Next Year

Access Tutorial (Per 8) - Access Tutorial (A.T.) is designed to provide academic support

for students by allowing them the opportunity to access a variety of academic assistance and

all of their teachers during 8th period. Students are assigned to a teacher who takes

attendance. The first portion of 8th period is considered homeroom where students complete

their Career Education requirements, participate in school-wide advisory lessons, or prepare

for how they will use their Access time. Then students may check out of their homeroom

classroom to see one or two of their teachers, go to the library, go to peer tutoring, make up

tests and activities, etc. Access tutorial is a school wide study hall with academic support.

We expect students to take advantage of this opportunity.

Every other day our students will learn to prioritize their study time and support

needs. Access Tutorial provides an opportunity for our students to embrace ownership

of their learning and gain valuable self-advocacy skills. Student ownership of learning

and self-advocacy are skills that have proven to directly translate to success after

graduation.

Access Tutorial is required for all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students and encouraged

for 12th grade students who desire extra support. For students in grade 12 whose

academic record indicates they do not need the Access Tutorial supports offered period

8, have met Essential Skills, and are on track to graduate may opt for Early Release

during period 8. Any student who fails a class in the prior semester will have Access

Tutorial period 8.

Make-A-Wish

On Friday, We met our goal of $10,000 for Make-A-Wish and will be granting Sasha's wish!!!

This year we are raising money to grant the wish of Sasha. She is a 4-year old who is a leukemia survivor. Her wish is to go to Disney World!! Our incredible community has already met our goal!

Early College High School Presentation for students Thursday, March 12th 1:45 in the CCC.

Early College High School is an options program available to students in the Beaverton School District. Juniors and eligible seniors may apply during the fall, winter, and spring terms. It is an opportunity for students to blend high school and college in a coherent, personalized and rigorous education program at Portland Community College.

Designed as an option for the last two years of high school, students generally attend PCC full time for six terms. Tuition is paid for by the Beaverton School District. It is possible for a student to earn a high school diploma as well as an Associate’s Degree or up to two years of transferable college credit in their career pathway.

PTO Positions

Dear Westview Community,

I have enjoyed serving as your PTO President for the past six years. At the end of the school year my youngest graduates! This means we are truly in need of volunteers to join the PTO in leadership positions. We currently have all positions open except President, Secretary and Treasurer. Please read through our descriptions of the various jobs we have available. If you’ve always wanted to do something to help out the school without having to be on campus during the school day, we have opportunities for you! None of these are a large task, individually – but when just three parents are handling all of these alone, it is a lot.

We are looking to fill all of these open positions. If you would like to join us in supporting Westview staff, students, clubs, sports and activities, please read through the attached job descriptions. Then join the Executive Board for our meeting on Wednesday, December 15 , at 6 o’clock PM in the Career Center at Westview, if you would be interested in any of these positions. The General PTO meeting will follow immediately after at 6:30 PM. We always do the meetings back-to-back on the third Wednesday of each month throughout the school year. There are no meetings in December or June.

We expect to vote on adding a Communications Person at this meeting, as multiple people have expressed interest in this job. All other positions are completely open so please come join us, ask questions, get support along the way, and enjoy doing something to help support our school and community!

Smarter Balanced Test Update

Last spring, students in grades 3 – 8 and 11 in the Beaverton School District and throughout Oregon took the state tests (Smarter Balanced) in English Language Arts and Mathematics.

In addition to content standards, these assessments are designed to measure critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills. The test results provide you, our schools, our district and the state with information about how well we are preparing our students for their next steps including college and career readiness.

Our students will take these tests once between January and June 2020. House Bill 2655 permits parents and adult students to annually opt-out of Oregon’s statewide summative tests in English Language Arts and Math by submitting a form to the school the student attends. The school shall provide any student who is exempted from a state test with supervised study time while other students are testing.

Student Survey February 3-June 5.

Each year the District surveys students, staff, and parents to gather information for planning, program evaluation, and assessment of progress on the District's Strategic Plan.
The student survey takes about 20 minutes during the regular school day. The data gathered from the survey are anonymous; your child will not put his/her name or other identifying information on the survey. Like other surveys, results will be presented only about groups. No individual data will be reported.
Student surveys of middle and high schools include three optional questions for students to identify their gender, ethnicity / race, and sexual orientation. These questions allow for additional levels of analysis of questions on inclusion, safety and bullying.
Your child may skip questions or stop filling out the survey at any time. Refusing to participate or withdrawing from the survey does not affect your child's grades or class standing in any way. If you or your child does not want to participate, your child can read or do some other activity while his or her classmates complete the survey.

Cada año, el distrito lleva a cabo encuestas para los estudiantes y el personal con el fin de obtener información para la planificación y la evaluación del programa así como del progreso del Plan Estratégico del Distrito.
La encuesta de estudiantes toma aproximadamente 20 minutos durante el día escolar. La información que obtengamos de la encuesta es anónima; su hijo no incluirá su nombre o cualquier información de identificación en la encuesta. Al igual que otras encuestas, los resultados que se presentan son sólo acerca de los grupos. No se proporcionará información de su estudiante.
