Who J.J Thomson is
Joseph JOhn Thomson was born the 18th of December in 1856. He was admitted to Owens College at the age of 14. The moved on to Trinity College in 1876. In 1880, he obtained his BA in mathematics
What, How, and Why
He discovered the electron by a series of experiments designed to study the nature of electric discharge in a high-vacuum cathode-ray tube. In 1904 Thomson suggested a model of the atom as a sphere of positive matter in which electrons are positioned by electrostatic forces. His discovery was the first step towards a detailed model of the atom.
Where and when he worked
He worked at the Cavendish Laboratory and became professor of physics at age 28, in 1876.
