January 2019
January is School Board Recognition Month
Board members serving Brenham ISD are: Natalie Lange, President Melvin Ehlert, Vice President Susan Jenkins, Secretary Dr. Michael Altman, Trustee Sgt. Kelvin Raven, Trustee Mark Schneider, Trustee Tommie Sullivan, Trustee
Our district benefits from the tireless work and countless hours contributed by these local citizens who work without pay. Serving as a crucial link between the community and classroom, our board is responsible for an annual budget of over $40 million, over 5,000 students, more than 700 employees, and 8 campuses. It’s more important than ever before that communities support public education so that today’s students are prepared to be productive citizens and the leaders of tomorrow. Please take a moment and tell school board members ‘thanks for caring about our children and giving so much to our community.’ Let them know we support them and that their dedicated service is recognized and truly appreciated!

New meal account balance check kiosks at BJHS & BHS
Students at Brenham Junior High School and Brenham High School have a new opportunity to self-check meal account balances on campus. New balance check kiosks in each cafeteria will allow students to scan their school ID card to check account balances before entering the serving line. Students will see a green check mark if they have enough money for breakfast and lunch, or a red X if they need to add money to their meal account.
Brenham ISD Child Nutrition Director Sandra Baxter says this is just one more way the child nutrition department can service students and families. “The kiosks are in addition to our online portal and will hopefully provide students with a discreet way to ensure their meal accounts have sufficient funding for breakfast and lunch,” said Baxter. Baxter also explained that students are afforded a charge limit of 10 breakfasts and 10 lunches before they are provided with an alternate meal. Students who are within the charge limit will also see the green check mark. Click here for more information about the Brenham ISD Child Nutrition Department.
Brenham ISD to host fourth annual EdCamp Grow
Brenham ISD is excited to host the fourth annual EdCamp Grow “unconference.” The EdCamp experience is unlike traditional conferences which have schedules set months in advance by the people running the conference. EdCamps are designed specifically for educators and their needs, and have an agenda that's created by the participants at the start of the event.
EdCamp Grow 2019 will be held on February 23, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Brenham High School.
EdCamp Grow is free to any educator who is interested in collaborating with other passionate educators, but pre-registration is required. Click here for more information or to register for this event.
