The Counselor Connection
Dear Pella MS Families,
Welcome back to the 2021-2022 school year! I would like to reach out and connect with our families to share some important information about the Counseling Department.
Role of a School Counselor
My role is to support student academic performance by providing social/emotional, academic, and career related interventions. This may include in-class presentations, brief individual counseling, peer mediation, small group counseling, and other targeted interventions. We also can serve as a liaison/advocate for parents and students when working with education staff.
Our school counseling program is designed around Pella Middle School's unique needs. On an annual basis a survey to determine our student’s needs is used, and then we design a tiered intervention model based upon these needs. Middle school is an exciting time for students to grow academically, emotionally, physically, and socially. Our hope is to provide resources that are useful and engaging to both students and parents alike!
How can my student access the school counselor?
Students and parents can access the school counselor by emailing me. Additionally, students and parents can call their school counselor directly to discuss any emergent concerns.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When should I consider contacting the school counselor?
You are welcome to contact me for any concern, however there may be concerns that are more directly related to our role as defined above. For example,
· If your student is experiencing any social/emotional distress.
· If your student is having an academic concern that isn't resolved after working directly with the classroom teacher.
· If there is a significant change in your student’s behavior that indicates the need for extra support.
· If you're unsure, please call or email.
