October 2018
Dear Parents,
The summer vacation seems like a distant memory, and a lot has happened in Ajman Academy since then. Students have settled back into school and have established routines with the help of all our staff. I would like to thank all parents for their patience during the first few months of the term while form and subject teachers were establishing class routines.
Ajman Academy is always a busy place, but the last few months especially so, with a number of events taking place.
The School Book Fair in September promoted a love of reading amongst our students, and it was lovely to see such a buzz of excitement amongst students from both Primary and Secondary sections. It is essential for schools to focus on the basic literacy skills of reading and writing to facilitate greater access to our curriculum. I would like to thank you all for your support for making the book fair the most successful ever hosted at Ajman Academy.
September also saw the signing of the tri-party agreement between Ajman Academy, Ajman Digital Government and Ajyal Talent. It is a wonderful achievement that Ajman Academy has been selected to run this pioneering A.I programme. The programme will be launched as "Ajman Digital Champions" and will benefit Ajman Academy students immensely by making them pioneers in the field of artificial intelligence. This is a major educational project and the first in the UAE to be fully funded and supported by these partner agencies. I would also like to thank HRH Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi for his support and patronage of this event and His Excellency Omar Al Olama, the Minister for Artificial Intelligence.
Ajman Academy also held the grand opening of a new library for kindergarten students. While our youngest students will continue to visit the main library once a week, they will now have a resource closer to their classrooms, where they can exchange books at other times. We welcomed local author and guest of honour, Shaima Al Marzooqi, who enthralled the KG students with readings from her published books.
Our Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) and programmes are also well underway, with our professional external ECA providers bringing in a wealth of expertise and skills. Ajman Academy’s holistic approach to education allows our students to develop and showcase skills in a variety of sports and games.
One of the focus areas for Ajman Academy during the next year will be a drive towards greater parental engagement. We aim to do this in a variety of ways, which you will be informed of during the year. A higher degree of communication through information and “hands-on” workshop sessions will allow a greater understanding of assessment and learning at Ajman Academy. We will also be holding events, run by Programme Coordinators, to explain how the International Baccalaureate (IB) frameworks support learning in the school.
As some of you are already aware, we are an IB World School, fully accredited to offer the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP, KG-Grade 5) and a candidate school for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP, Grades 6-10) and IB Diploma Programme (DP, Grades 11-12).
The long-term vision for Ajman Academy is to become an IB Continuum School from KG-Grade 12. There will be a number of visits by consultants over the next few years to help realise that vision, and we will keep you informed of any developments.
I look forward to seeing you and further discussing the future of Ajman Academy later in the year.
Best regards,
Fiyaz Ahmed
