Lincoln Crossing Colt Connection

Mrs. Hladun's Tidings
We hope you are enjoying your long weekend with your family. My family, much like yours, is busy with school, sports and other activities, so we've enjoyed the extra time to connect. I came across this article recently and it was a reminder of simple things you can do to connect with your child, regardless of his/her's age. With my 15 year old, "listening without offering advice" and being an "anchor" are important. With my 9 year old, "making small moments matter" and playing on his terms is really essential! I wonder what resonates with you?
On a related note, this week our school psychologist, Ms. St. John, is hosting our second Happy Families session. There are two duplicate sessions - Thursday from 6-7 pm in the Tech Room (free child care available!) or Friday from 8:30-9:30 am in the Tech Room (no child care). This month's focus: Free Range Children in a High Tech Age.
In this hilarious conversation, Lenore Skenazy explains why kids growing up today in the US (and many other English speaking countries) have very little freedom in comparison to their parents, even though crime is at a record low. Computers and phones give parents the ability to monitor children (their location, their vital signs, their grades, etc) in unprecedented ways, however these technological advances might impact our relationship with our kids, slow their development, and actually not keep kids any safer or help us parents be any calmer! Lenore talks about how the Let Grow non-profit program is changing schools and communities at no cost, and making it easy, normal and legal to give kids freedom.

iReady Update
Our staff is aware that the iReady online program (both reading and math components) were experiencing some technical difficulties that made logging in difficult at school and at home last week. We understand that Curriculum Associates, the producers of iReady, have resolved the issues with at-home login.
If you attempt to login and are struggling to get access, please let your child’s teacher know so we can troubleshoot any new or different issues.
Boundary Study/2020-2021 Registration Update
NEW INFORMATION: Please know that REGISTRATION will be running from mid December to early January this year (including TK registration, K registration and returning student commitments). In addition, the district will be accepting and processing INTRADISTRICT requests in January/early February, too. Please let your friends and neighbors know so they aren't caught by surprise, and they have access to any/all options!
There will also be discussion and decisions this winter about extended day kindergarten options at each WPUSD elementary school as well as a decision to come about where the district's new dual immersion program will be housed.

- We find it is less congested before 8 am and after 2:50 pm.
