Buckeye Primary Parent Update
May 2021
Notes from Mrs. Kochanek
Dear Families,
As we approach the last few days of school, I would again like to thank you all for your support and understanding through this incredibly tumultuous year. Our parents, children and staff have handled the year with grace and I could not be more thankful for each and every one of you!
There is a great deal of important information below in the newsletter, but please remember that you can check our Buckeye Primary School website and Facebook page throughout the summer for information and updates. Class lists will be sent out via email on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. Incoming kindergarten families will receive information about kindergarten orientation over the summer and it takes place on August 18th and 19th.
I hope that everyone has a safe, relaxing, fun-filled summer!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Dawn Kochanek, Principal

Summer Reading Reinforcement Bags
Student devices will be sent home with students for the Summer!!
Dear Buckeye Parents and Students,
This year we are revising our chromebook policy for student devices. First, we recognize that many students continue learning throughout the summer and would benefit from having a chromebook and access to school online programs. This year, students currently in grades K-11 will be able to take their Chromebook and power cord home for the summer. To use the chromebook at home, families will need wifi access. Students will bring their devices home on the last day of school and VLA students will simply keep their devices.
If you move from the Buckeye district over the summer, please return the device and power cord to the Buckeye School Board Office. All of the normal rules for computer use apply.
Usage notes:
1. Please keep the device charged, do not let it drop below 10%. This will help preserve the battery.
2. If you have an issue with the device during the summer, we will have limited repair services available. Please use the following Google Form to report an issue. https://bit.ly/33mH8lS
Summer repairs will count as part of the 2020-2021 school year technology fee. The fee covers one major and two minor repairs each year. Repairs beyond one major and two minors or repairs caused by animals, liquids, foods, neglect, or vandalism are not covered under the school fee and are the responsibility of the family. If the family is required to pay for a repair, the repair cost will be added to the student's school fees.
3. If you are not going to use your device for a long period of time (several days or a week) you can prepare it for long term storage using the following instructions:
Prepare Chromebooks for long-term storage
Charge your Chromebooks so that the battery is at least 80% full.
This ensures that even when the battery discharges while unplugged over the summer, it won’t fully run out of power. To slow the discharge rate during storage, do not physically remove the battery from the Chromebook for storage. Instead, take the following steps:
Connect the device to a charger and turn it on.
Note: If the device charges via a USB-C connector, the charger must be plugged into a USB-C port on the same side as the charging light. You can verify this by confirming that there is an orange charging light on the same side as the charger after you've plugged it in.Hold Refresh and Power at the same time.
While holding these keys, remove the power cable from device and then release the keys.
The device should shut down and remain off.Confirm the battery disconnect worked by pressing the power button.
The device should not power on, despite having a battery charge. The Chromebook won’t power on by touching the power button or opening the lid, until you plug the device back to a power source.
Get your Chromebooks ready for school
A week before classes resume, get the Chromebooks ready for students.
Connect the Chromebooks to a charger and a power source.
This will get them out of the battery disconnect state.Power up your devices.
Connect your Chromebooks to Wi-Fi and update them to the latest Chrome OS release.
This can take time, as multiple Chrome OS versions might have been released since the last time the device was updated.
