Newsletter Week 1 Term 2
Pinehill School 5th May 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora tatou, Mālō e lele, Ann yeong haseyo, Ni hao, Dzień dobry
We have started the new term with a new website and newsletter format. We hope you like the updated version. The idea is to align our website, newsletters, school app to make communication aligned, appealing, easy to follow and more accessible for all.
A very warm welcome back to Term 2 to all of our students and whānau. We have 11 new students starting their journey at Pinehill School with us this term and it was wonderful to be able to welcome all our new students and their families with a whakatau on our first day back in the hall. We have had a fantastic start to the week and the children have come back motivated, engaged and ready for an exciting Term 2 ahead.
This term we have many exciting events, and we will continue to update you with dates and further information closer to the time of these events. A snapshot of events coming up includes Pink Shirt Day, Cross Country, Inter-School Mathex competition, Trees for Survival Planting, and a highlight for many, our school disco which will be held in week 5 (Thursday 3rd June).
I am sure that you have noticed the dynamic new shade structure over our roadside netball court. It has been fascinating for us as a school, as well as the community to watch the process of the structure being built to its completion. Our structure has had the final check-off and is now complete! This area will provide shelter and shade throughout the whole year for sports teams practices, team huis, school sport, break time play, concerts and more.
We would like to invite you to attend a Blessing Ceremony tomorrow, Thursday 6th May at 2 pm. The ceremony will involve a karakia, Kapa Haka waiata, and an opening speech. Students will be seated in their class groups under the structure.
We hope you and join us and look forward to seeing you there.
Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini
Success is not the work of one but the work of many.
Ngā mihi nui,
Carla Veldman, Principal

Y5/6 Cross Country Training
The school cross country event will be held on Monday 24th May (savaday 25th). Inter-school races will be held on Tuesday 8 June ( savaday 10th).
All children are expected to bring suitable clothes for running. Training shoes may be worn, or bare feet. School shoes are unsuitable.
Cross country training will be at 12.05 every day except Fridays. We have a short lead-in time to our school cross country day so it is important that children are properly prepared and put the effort into training. The office is not able to provide a change of uniform if children get muddy. The change of clothing is therefore very important.
Walking School Bus Week
However, students who use the drop-off zone will not earn house points. So, if you are driving your children to school, please try dropping them off somewhere other than the drop-off zone so that they can participate. They will be met close to the gates by House Leaders who will give them stickers to add to their house chart.
Walking to school is a great way for students to get fit, talk with their friends and earn points for their houses. It will also free up the streets around the school by taking some cars off the road which will improve the environment for all of our regular walkers.
