Monthly Mudbug Memo
Sorrento Primary School Newsletter: September 2022
Message from the Principal's Office
Oh my goodness...what a great start to the year we have had! August was full of events...Prep Day, the first days of school, Open House, Dojo Cash-ins, Mighty Mudbugs of the Month. We have had an exciting start, and our Mudbugs are settling in wonderfully into the school year. Can you believe we are already entering into our second month of school?
As you know, our first quarter is a little past the halfway mark. Just like last year, parents will be able to access interim grades online instead of receiving a paper copy. These will be available to view on September 7. Did you know that you can actually access and view your child's grades at anytime in grades 1-5? If you still need assistance in accessing your child's grades in PowerSchool, please reach out to our Guidance and Records office for help.
Please pay close attention in the section below "News, Updates, and Reminders" for some important info. Also, stay connected with Class Dojo, Peach Jar, Facebook, and our website for the latest and greatest news.
We look forward to a Sensational September together. I hope you have a great jump start to the month with a well-deserved 3-day weekend. Enjoy the Labor Day holiday!
Mrs. Honey Lundin
Assistant Principal
Ms. Shawn Boudreaux
News, Updates, and Reminders
Need to pay the lunch fee? My School Bucks, is available allowing parents to make payments to students' school meal accounts and check account balances via the internet and telephone. This service allows parents to deposit funds directly into their children's school meal account via an on-line transaction, view student account balance and history, receive email notifications for low balances and secure credit card transactions.
Need to apply for free/reduced price meals for the 2022-2023 SY? My School Apps, is now available. Use this link to apply: www.myschoolapps.com.
Speaking of lunch...Parents are now able to join their children for lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning the week following Labor Day. :) These assigned days were determined at the district level to ensure consistency across primary schools. If joining your child for lunch, please check in at the school office a few minutes prior to your child's lunch time. Please understand that meals for parents are subject to availability from the supply chain. So, you may not be able to actually eat. However, you are welcome to sit with your child for lunch. Also, a few details since it has been so long since we have been able to do this...
-parents may not go to the classroom with the student before or after lunch.
-students must return to class with their teacher at the scheduled time to leave the cafeteria.
-no photography of any other students than your own child (even in the background please)
-teachers cannot accommodate a parent-teacher conference while supervising their students at lunch. Please schedule those for another day/time.
-fast food or restaurant food is not permitted in our dining area. All lunches from home must be brought in a personal lunch box/bag and free of logoed wrappers. This is a federal mandate for school cafeterias.
Want to be more involved? Join our Parent Organization, CLAWS!
September is Attendance Awareness Month!
We are also celebrating Attendance Awareness month with a grade level incentive each month. See the flyer below.
Did you know?
- Poor attendance in primary school can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade or be held back.
- By 6th grade, chronic absence becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.
- Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence.
