ALVORD UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
Distrito Escolar Unificado de Alvord

January 8, 2023
A Message from the Superintendent
Now that Measure J has been certified, we are establishing an independent citizens' bond oversight committee (CBOC). The purpose of the CBOC is to inform the public concerning the expenditure of bond revenues. The findings are shared with the Board of Education and the public in order to ensure that school bond funds are invested as the voters intended and that projects are completed wisely and efficiently.
The Committee will be composed of 7 members appointed by the Board of Education based on criteria established by Proposition 39, as follows:
- One member active in a business organization representing the business community located in the District.
- One member active in a senior citizen’s organization.
- One member active in a bona-fide taxpayers association.
- One member currently a parent or guardian of a child enrolled in Alvord.
- One member currently both a parent or guardian of a child enrolled in Alvord and active in a parent-teacher organization or school site council.
- Two members of the community at-large.
District employees or officials are prohibited by law from serving on the CBOC. In addition, vendors, contractors and consultants of the District are prohibited from serving on the CBOC. I will announce the release of applications in this space as well as through other digital and print publications later this month. The committee will meet quarterly and must issue a report to the public at least once a year regarding its activities and findings. Stay tuned for more details in my weekly messages.
JANUARY'S SKILL FOR LIFE IS PERSEVERANCE
Perseverance is one of nine character traits we purposefully teach and model in our elementary schools. Coming together as parents, teachers and members of the community to support positive character development among our children is everyone's responsibility and has long been the hallmark of safe, healthy and informed communities that serve as the foundation of our society.
