Veterans Weekly Update

Thank you for another great week at Veterans School. Please make sure your Brickie is on time each day and prepared with their needed materials. This includes bringing their charged Chromebook each day. Students need a pair of headphones to keep at school. Please send headphones if you haven't already done so.
Please continue to promote our PTO fall catalog fundraiser and spirit wear sale. PTO uses proceeds from their fundraisers to fund all the activities they sponsor throughout the school year.
Picture Retake Day will take place on Tuesday, September 20th.
Brickie Love!
We have procedures in place to ensure everyone's safety. When visiting the office, you must have a state ID or driver's license along with an appointment. Visitors are always to report to door 1. We also have a drop off table in our main vestibule if there should be a need to drop something off for your child.
Students need a set plan as to how they go home. Please send a note to the office in the event that you are changing their dismissal.
Please remember to check your child's backpack daily. No matter how old they are, it is important you are checking what is being sent home each day. Assignments are posted in Canvas daily.
Please dress your child for the weather. We try to take students outside for recess daily.
Listen for our Wednesday Notable that will go out every week at 5:00 pm and watch for text messages from the program Remind. We will remind you of events, share news, and give you information to help your child be more successful at school.

3:15 Car riders dismiss to Gym and Walkers dismiss to Door 14
3:20 Bus riders dismiss to Cafe.
Afternoon Dismissal: From W. Old Ridge Rd.
- Take Colorado Street to W. 2nd St. Turn left onto W. 2nd St.
- Take 2nd St. to California St. Please wait on W. 2nd St. until 3:10.
- At 3:10 turn onto California St. and enter the lot. We need to avoid blocking California St.
- Please do not enter the school lot prior to 3:10. Lot will be closed until then.
Afternoon Dismissal: From W. 3rd St.
- Take Colorado St. to W. 2nd St. Turn right onto W. 2nd St.
- Take 2nd St. to California St. Please wait on W. 2nd St. until 3:10.
- At 3:10 turn onto California St. and enter the lot. We need to avoid blocking California St.
- Please do not enter the school lot prior to 3:10. Lot will be closed until then.
- We ask that you do not enter W. 2nd St. from Wisconsin St.
- We ask that you do not enter onto California St. and Virginia St. from W. 3rd St. We need to avoid blocking both California and Virginia Streets.
Additional:
- For the sake of our residents that reside near Veterans Elementary, please do not block alleys, driveways, and intersections while waiting. Signs will be posted advising not to do so.
- We ask parents not to wait on W. 2nd St. no earlier than 2:30 pm.
- Do not enter on W. 2nd St. from Wisconsin St. West 2nd St. essentially becomes a one-way street during afternoon dismissal. This has caused some traffic to back up onto Wisconsin St., creating the potential for accidents and hindering all emergency police and fire traffic utilizing Wisconsin St. Wisconsin St. is an emergency/hospital route. Follow the pre-determined routes as depicted on the map.
- In order to assist us here at Veterans with afternoon dismissal/pick-up, please have the sign with your student's name readily visible. This helps keep the line moving and gets your student to you in an efficient manner.
- Cleveland Ave. will be blocked off at both California and Virginia Streets.
Communication
Each month you will receive a monthly newsletter and calendar. This is the school's way of communicating important events that are taking place at the school.
You will also receive notables from the school on your phone. A weekly notable goes out from the school every Wednesday at 5:00 pm. There may be other occasions the school will call with announcements.
