BULLDOG BULLETIN
New Britton Elementary
March 10, 2023
I AM. YOU ARE. WE ARE. BULLDOGS!
News from Mrs. Mankin
K - Mrs. Millsaps' Class Readers talked about how we can use the cover, title, and pictures to predict what the book may be about. Do you think this is fiction or nonfiction? Nonfiction has specific features that help inform the reader about the topic. | K - Ms. Esposito Ms. Esposito shared a powerful read aloud with students, Emanuel's Ride. The author's message in this book is that disability does not mean inability. The main character showed a great deal of perseverance in reaching for his dreams, and he serves as an inspiration for others to do so. | 1st Grade - Ms. Hur Ms. Hur's mathematicians are learning how to solve math word problems. It is important to understand what the problem is asking for so it is helpful to read it more than once to help you decide what operation and strategy to use. Students shared their thinking. Mathematicians learn from each other! |

Spring is quickly approaching! Our unpredictable Indiana weather tends to make it difficult for families to navigate outerwear for their students. I encourage you to check the weather forecast daily to determine the appropriate coat and other needed accessories as we go out to recess daily. Also, if your child is missing any clothing, our "lost and found" has many unclaimed items. I will remind teachers to walk our students by this area for the next week.
It is hard to believe that we just completed our 3rd 9-week grading period this past Friday. Report cards will be posted to Skyward Thursday afternoon. Please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions about his/her progress. It is important to have a comprehensive understanding of how your child is doing on daily learning checks, unit assessments, our NWEA district assessment, and our 3rd and 4th grade state standardized assessments (IREAD-3 and ILEARN). We will continue to adjust our students' learning goals to be responsive to their needs for our last quarter of school.
As always, thank you for partnering with us in education! I hope you are having a restful weekend.
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin
4th Grade Music Performance Students have been learning how to play recorders. It was impressive to hear the incorporation of singing and playing within their songs. Recorder playing may just be the precursor to participation in band starting at the intermediate level. | 3rd Grade - Mrs. Street These learners are plotting the location of their assigned musher in the Iditarod. There is so much to investigate and learn about this race. This inquiry project combines reading, writing, math, and social studies - connected learning experiences matter! | 4th Grade Music Performance Our students sang the Bulldog Anthem that was written last year with student input. This song is quite a tribute to our learning community at New Britton! Families were able to experience what our students have been doing recently in music each day. Mrs. Thornsberry created a dynamic program with singing, drumming, and xylophone playing. |

Ford Next Generation Learning
Would you like to help shape the types of learning experiences students receive while attending Hamilton Southeastern Schools?
Coming up on Monday, Mar. 20, community input sessions will be led by coaches from Ford Next Generation Learning (Ford NGL) at various HSE schools. Staff, students, parents, and local stakeholders are invited to provide input about future college and career learning experiences PreK-12 students should receive while enrolled in Hamilton Southeastern Schools. The feedback from these input sessions, collected by Ford NGL will be compiled into a report that will be used to develop a shared strategic plan. The report will be focused on transforming teaching and learning in HSE by designing community-driven curriculum experiences by way of community engagement with Fishers’ families, employers, educators, and municipal leaders.
Anyone interested in taking part in this important work needs to complete this form. The deadline to apply is Monday, Mar. 13. For questions or additional information, email Steve Loser, Director of PK-12 Initiatives at sloser@hse.k12.in.us.

Snack Attack - Fishers Youth Assistance Program
NBE is pleased to announce the return of the Snack Attack program for those students in need. This program, supported by the Fishers Youth Assistance Program, is designed to provide students a little extra nourishment for the weekend until they can receive a hot meal at school on Monday.
Here's how the program works. Your student will pick up a small sack of food to be taken home over the weekend. The sack is filled with individually wrapped snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups, pop tarts, peanut butter/crackers, Goldfish crackers, etc. The type of snacks will vary each week. Please let us know if your child has a peanut allergy as he/she will receive a special bag of peanut-free snacks.
There is no cost to you or the school. This program is open to students that qualify for the reduced lunch program or have an increased need currently.
To be part of this free program, you must sign up your family online. https://forms.gle/xrKNaxRaLypSqKvV8
