M. Scott Tatum
Principal
With Friday, June 18, being the last day of school, we are already looking forward to an outstanding 2021–2022 school year that kicks off in August. These are four of the most important things parents should know about next school year.
- Dallas ISD will be back to in-person learning, districtwide. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to in-person learning in the fall.
- There will be no virtual option for students at Longfellow Career Exploration Academy. The Texas Legislature did not pass the virtual bill that would allow districts to offer virtual options to students at this time.
- Dallas ISD will keep nine-week grading periods next school year as part of a broader effort to help mitigate learning loss and further support students. Compared to the traditional six-week grading period, a nine-week grading period gives students an additional three weeks to master a subject before receiving a final report card. The nine-week grading period also reduces the number of district common assessments, giving students more time in the classroom to learn. Students will still take the state required STAAR and End of Course (EOC) exams next school year.
- There are three different Dallas ISD 2021-2022 school year calendars. Visit dallasisd.org/schoolcalendars to see the Base Calendar that Longfellow follows.
Have a great summer, and we look forward to seeing everyone back in-person in August!

2021-2022 School Calendar
While you'll always be able to find the calendar on our website as it updates throughout the year, the District Base Calendar found here will give you all the important start/stop dates of grading cycles and the student holidays throughout the year so you can plan your year accordingly.
Vaccinations for 12 Years Old + Up
93% of our current students are 12 years of age or older and now -all- of them qualify to get the Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine. Check out videos of the news below and explore the links below them for public and private locations your Longfellow student can receive the shot if you choose to do so. From the CDC and FDA Guidance, "the [Pfizer] vaccine was 100% effective in preventing COVID-19" in this age group.
And as every student knows, 100% is an A+.
While Longfellow will continue to follow all Dallas ISD safety and health protocols on our campus this school year, I wanted to share with you another way you can help protect your children and family from COVID-19.
If you need help navigating registering for a COVID-19 Vaccination, visit Dallas ISD's information page or reach out to our campus and we'll assist you however we can.
