ATHLÈTES DE LA SEMAINE
JASMINE TESSIER
Jasmine Tessier is a grade 9 student at École secondaire Macdonald-Cartier. Since grade 7, she has participated in many sporting activities including hockey, badminton, basketball, tennis, baseball, track and field and wrestling. Her love of wrestling has rewarded her with many successes. In grade 9, she won first place at cities and at NOSSA. She also won a silver medal at OFSAA. Jasmine has been in the top three at the provincial level at the Ontario Youth Wrestling Festival and in the Canada East wrestling division as well as at the Winter Games. Jasmine is also willing to help train our younger wrestlers at school and in her competitive team with the Sudbury Regional Wrestling Club at Laurentian University. She has been awarded most valuable player on the wrestling team.
She has also had success in shot put at track and field and basketball. Jasmine participates in our student athletic association. Her positive attitude, her willingness to improve and her dedication to our school make her a remarkable panther. École secondaire Macdonald-Cartier would like to congratulate Jasmine on being SDSSAA’s athlete of the week.
YANIC POULIN
Macdonald-Cartier would like to salute Yanic Poulin, a grade 11 student, as athlete of the week. As a student athlete his dedication to the school has been impressive. Yanic has been playing volleyball, basketball, soccer and badminton since grade 8 as well as participating in track and field. He has won most improved player and most deserving player in both volleyball and basketball.
In grade 9 his basketball team won cities and competed at the NOSSA level. In grade 10, he played basketball at the senior level and his team won gold at Franco-Basket, a three day tournament held by Ontarian French secondary schools from across the province. In the same year, he competed at the NOSSA level in long jump and triple jump. In grade 11, his volleyball team competed at the NOSSA level.
Since grade six, Yanic has also played competitive basketball with the club team JAM. He also helps coach our boys' grade 7 and 8 basketball team. For the past three years, he has been a member of the student athletic association. Yanic works hard in all his endeavours and continues to be the best that he can be. École secondaire Macdonald-Cartier would like to congratulate Yanic on being SDSSAA’s athlete of the week.
