Elmwood News (10/29/18)
Week of 10/29-11/2
Message from Principal Polomsky
Elmwood Parents & Community~
It was so good to see so many of our students and families at our Dark and Spooky Reading Night on Thursday evening! Students came in costumes to hear very scary stories, kinda scary stories, and not so scary stories. This event is gearing us up for next week's Halloween parade and parties. We hope to see you at parade next week at 1:15 PM.
As always, we look forward to ‘Making a Difference’ with you this school year!

Reminders
Halloween at Elmwood
Halloween will be celebrated at Elmwood on Wednesday, October 31st. Our annual parade will begin at 1:15 PM and all parents are invited to attend. Weather permitting, students will exit out Door 17 while taking two laps around the track. If weather is poor the parade will be indoors and viewing will take place in the multipurpose room and Gym.
Halloween Costumes
- K – 5th graders should bring their costumes to school in a bag and change at lunchtime.
- Children are allowed to wear appropriate Halloween masks. However, masks should be appropriate for all elementary school children. Please avoid sending students with masks that have “fake” blood or masks that will impair their vision.
- No weapon replicas are permitted at school at any time.
- Children may participate in the parade in regular school dress.
Halloween Pictures
All pictures of ‘other’ children should be sent to the yearbook committee and shouldn’t be shared via Facebook or other forms of social media. elmwoodeagles@gmail.com
Dismissal on Halloween
Parents, please REFRAIN from pulling your kids early (2:25 PM) from the Halloween party. Although 5-minutes does not sound like a big deal…. It indeed creates confusion for students and staff as room parents walk around to pull their children and/or even their neighbor children from multiple classrooms prior to dismissal. PLEASE wait until the final 2:30 PM bell to take children home. IF you absolutely have to take your own child home early, parents will need to sign children out at the front office and this is highly discouraged.
Halloween Parade Participation
Everyone is welcome to participate in the parade. If you wish your child to not participate, they can go to the Learning Center during this time. Please notify their teacher/s by email of their desired plan. Activities will be available for their enjoyment.
Elmwood Health Office Information
A new dental clinic location is now open in Lombard. Click here for the flyer.

Also, feel free to bring your favorite stuffed animal, pillow, and blanket. Entry is free. Please sign up to work the concession stand or donate pop, baked goods, or candy at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0c4ea9a728a4ff2-movie2. Hope to see you there!

Veterans Day Assembly
We will honor all veterans at our assembly on Monday, November 12th at 8:45. We welcome all family members and community members/neighbors who are veterans to join us and be recognized for their service to our country. Please fill out the form and send it back in to the office if you have a veteran in your life who will be joining us. In addition to the assembly, all veterans will be invited to join 5th grade after the assembly for a special Question and Answer session.

ColorCyle
Elmwood is going to participate in a very special program with Crayola. It’s called Crayola ColorCycle – an amazing new program devised to turn used markers into energy! All around Elmwood students and teachers will be collecting used markers that are ready to be discarded. The markers will be sent to a facility where they will be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more!
Please help support our efforts by sending your kids in with any used markers you may have around the house – even non-Crayola brands. Drop-off boxes will be located around the school for your child to deposit the markers. Thank you in advance for participating! With the help of parents like you across the country, the Crayola ColorCycle program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year. Remember, don’t throw out that used marker—ColorCycle it!
Donate Small Toys to Elmwood
THANK YOU to the many parents who have already made a donation! We will accept donations all year, so keep them coming!! Remember... "One's trash is another one's treasure!" :) Thanks in advance for your donation!
