Parent/Teacher Conferences Best Practices
Conferences allow our families to be a part of their child’s learning process and eliminates communication barriers between the home / school connection. Conferences allow teachers to showcase the children’s achievements as well as discuss educational goals for the children. During conferences, our goal is to meet with 100% of families! To help your team achieve this goal, please review the best practices listed below when planning your conferences. Conferences will be held during the months of November and May. Please select one week that works best for your center to hold conferences. Attach a copy of the conference flyer to every child’s cubby:
- Personally invite families to sign-up for conferences
- Post the conference sign-up sheet in a high traffic location in your center
- Offer flexible schedules for families including conferences calls
- Send conference reminders to families
- Ensure teachers are well prepared
- Complete the Parent / Teacher Conversation Form for each child
- Hold conferences for 20 minutes for each family
- *Please have teachers write in the date and times for the families to sign-up that works best for your center & families.
Parent / Teacher Conversation
- Please ensure a Parent / Teacher Conversation Form is completed for every child and includes a well-balanced approach that reflects the child’s growth and development within our program. The Conversation Form should include examples of mastered concepts and milestones as well as educational goals for the child during the upcoming months to follow.
- Please place a copy of the Parent / Teacher Conversation Form in each child’s portfolio and child file. You must also supply a copy for the family even if the family does not have a face-to-face conference.

Teacher Spotlight
Ms. Diane has been with Leo Rainbow for three and a half years. She has worked with the infants and is now working in our Young Preschool 2 classroom. Her circle time is fun and inviting with songs, dances, and stories. The children in her classroom love the fun and creative projects they work on daily. They even talked about bears and their hibernation. She makes every family feel special and welcome as she greets them both in the morning and as they go home. Diane is always a ray of sunshine and makes Rainbow a more inviting place to work and play.
