"Every child, every person needs to know they are a source of joy; every child every person needs to be celebrated." Jean Vanier
Dear Parents,
What an incredible year of learning and growing we have experienced at Jean Vanier Catholic School! The many gifts that God has bestowed upon this incredible community have been evident throughout the year. The year-end fun day was another great example of our Vice-Principal, Mrs. Boehm’s favorite motto…..It Takes a Village.
Thanks to the great collaboration between parents and staff, the day went off without a hitch. Our teachers and parent volunteers, with the organizational assistance and planning of Miss. Howe did a fine job of keeping our students moving and active throughout the day. With the leadership of parent Lori Pichota, parents, staff and students were fed a great BBQ lunch. Our partners from Staples provided water for our thirsty guests, management from Nitza’s Pizza were on hand to lend their support, Sobeys on Wye Road provided us great deals on out hot dogs and buns…….thank you all for being such great community supporters. Speaking of community, our dear friends from L’Arche were able to join us for lunch, games and fellowship; it appears a good time was had by all.
While the fun day was the culmination of a great year at JV, there were many other outstanding moments not the least of which was the final school-wide liturgical celebration led by Fr. Rendy. The liturgy was a beautiful way to end our year in prayer and reflection. Fr. Rendy’s unique gift of connecting to students through the Gospel shone brightly through the celebration. A special thanks goes out to Pani Cokan for all of her preparation work behind the scenes.
Finally, thank you to the entire Jean Vanier School Community for your incredible support and dedication to the massive responsibility of educating your children. For the last two years, you have been a tremendous model for what a faith-filled, child-centered community should look like. I encourage you all to continue to be active participants on this incredible and most worthwhile journey. Model to your children the importance of faith by continuing to be actively involved in your parish, attend Parent School Council Meetings, Monday Assemblies, and be a voice for excellence in Catholic Education ……your children deserve nothing less!
Sincerely,
Don Marceau

2015-2016 Jean Vanier Ukrainian Liaison Report
We continue to be very grateful to our BUCPS society for all of the generosity and support for our staff and students at Jean Vanier. This year we have had so many celebrations, cultural presentations, and opportunities as a whole school community to celebrate and support our Ukrainian Bilingual program.
We started the year with the Opening Liturgy at St. Basil’s. As a school, to commemorate our Jean Vanier Patron Saint we attended a Divine Liturgy at St. Nicholas Parish in December. As a school community, we gathered for the Easter Basket blessings with Father Rendy. To celebrate our year-end, we concluded our year with a whole school Moleben on June 23, 2016 and had invited Father Rendy to lead our liturgy.

It is evident that while we share two programs within our school, the respect and celebration of the Ukrainian Bilingual program enriches all of our students and staff. It continues to be our vision to celebrate and embrace two programs in our school community as a Jean Vanier family. We will continue to place important priority and support for our Ukrainian Bilingual program as this is one of the ways that we have committed to ensuring the strength, integrity, and passion of our program.
We will say “Good Bye” to 20 Ukrainian grade 4 students who are moving to St. Theresa school and would like to say “Welcome” to our 20 Ukrainian kindergarten students and their families. Also, we would like to thank Mr. Marceau and Mrs. Boehm for their continuous support, great leadership, understanding and appreciation of the beautiful and rich traditions of the Ukrainian Heritage. On this note, we would like to wish Mr. Marceau the best of luck with his new position and his career aspirations.
Thank you Pani Hyzha for your dedication and commitment to sharing your knowledge of the Ukrainian language and culture with our Ukrainian Bilingual students over the last two years. We wish you all the best! Mи бажаємо їй всього найкращого!
Finally, we would like to wish all of our Jean Vanier school families a very blessed, safe and joyful summer vacation!
