This is the last update/newsletter for the year, and I hope that you have found the information useful throughout the year. Class of 2022, I encourage you STRONGLY to read these when I send them next year...I answer many senior questions about scholarships, financial aid, trades, jobs, colleges, and more. You'll also be hearing about the return of Stayton Outbound trips for ALL SHS students next year! Request for students: Service and Volunteer Opportunities

Heart of the Canyon Benefit Auction


August 28: Raising $ for wildfire victims-proceeds will go to the wildfire relief fund. It will be held at Historic Heater Farm, Siegmund Rd SE, Stayton. We will provide transportation to and from. Jobs will be mainly helping with food to tables, and bussing tables, delivering winning items, etc. We will provide pizza dinner for all students. Would be cool for them to wear their jerseys, anything that identifies them. We are expecting up to 300 people to attend. Time:
5:30-11. Need is about 20 students.

Stayton Area Rotary Reds, Whites and Brews


Many of your shs students have assisted in this event in the past. September 18 at Santiam Golf Course. Proceeds go to scholarships for local seniors. Duties, greeting, selling raffle tickets, and 50/50 tickets, bussing tables, helping with the silent auction and delivering winning items.. We will need only about 15 for this event. time:
5:00-9pm.

Santiam Hospital Junior Volunteer


  • Junior volunteers must be between 14 and 21 years of age, and available to serve at least two hours per week during the school year and four hours per week during the summer months.
  • Shifts are Sunday through Saturday evenings from 5:00–7:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday mornings from 10:00 am–12:00 pm. There may be occasional Monday through Friday morning times available.

Nationwide Summer Virtual College Fair

Join our free virtual college fair for the United States this summer! This fair is scheduled for June 21st-26th, students can register now! The students can log in any time during the week and get information from many colleges. There is a question and answer section for the students to get answers directly from college reps during the week. The students must go to www.collegefairsonline.com to the students tab to register ASAP. This service is completely free and we would love to have your school and students join. Please have your students register as soon as possible if they would like to participate. This is a great Summer resource. Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything. Every student that registers is entered to win a $300 scholarship.

Build Your College List

Last Call!
The Build Your College List step closes at the end of June. This step must be completed by the end of June for students to stay on track for a chance at the $40,000 Complete Your Journey Scholarship. To ensure your students qualify, make sure they have at least six schools on their college list on BigFuture™.


Practice for the SAT

Open Through October
Ensure your students have linked their College Board and Khan Academy® accounts. Encourage students to complete at least one Timed Mini Section (if they already have a PSAT/NMSQT® or SAT score) or one Diagnostic Quiz (if they don't yet have a score) on Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy to be eligible for a $500 scholarship.

Abbott & Fenner Scholarship, Due June 12, $1,000 scholarship available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all college students for an essay on educational career and life goals.


AmericanMuscle Automotive Scholarships, Due June 15, $2,000 for high school seniors and current college students who are pursuing an automotive degree or related field of study.


AmericanTrucks Scholarship, Due June 15, $2,000 for students studying the traditional building trades (e.g. carpentry, HVAC, electrical or related fields of study).

Navigate Your Future Scholarship, Due June 25, $2,500 scholarship offered to a high school graduate continuing his or her education in the aviation industry.


Gen and Kelly Tanabe Scholarship, Due July 31, $1,000 merit-based scholarship for 9th-12th grade and college students for answering a short essay.


Digital Privacy Scholarship: Due June 30, You must be a high school freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior or a current or entering college or graduate school student of any level. Home schooled students are also eligible. There is no age limit. You must also be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.

How to apply: Complete the application form below including a 140-character message about digital privacy. The top 10 applications will be selected as finalists. The finalists will be asked to write a full length 500- to 1,000-word essay about digital privacy.
