Please know that you are always welcome to contact us anytime you have questions! I have included a list below of people who can help with different questions, but you are always welcome to call the main office and we can direct your question to the appropriate contact. Our First Few Days!

E-Registration!

Every child attending South East Jr. High should have Emergency Information entered into PowerSchool through eRegistration.

If you have not eRegistered, please do so as soon as possible!

Call the main office at 688-1070 if you

have further questions.

Lost and Found

Lost and found articles are kept in boxes right inside the main office. Please have your student check these boxes if they are missing clothing, water bottles, supplies, etc. Any valuables that are found are kept in the main office. Students can check with one of the secretaries if they are looking for something. At the end of each trimester, all unclaimed items are donated to Goodwill.

Securly!

All parents should have a securly account to monitor their student's usage on the Chromebook. You can adjust the settings to whatever restrictions you want. Whoever is listed as contact #1 in PowerSchool will get a weekly email about their student's usage for that week. Below is a video for more information on using Securly!

Construction Update

We are in year 2 of our remodel and expansion project! We could not be happier with the brand new spaces we have for this year already! Our new library is amazing, as is our CASL space and remodeled classrooms. Construction is currently going on in the main entrance and office area as they work to remodel the administrative area. We are excited to have an expanded office with a larger waiting area for visitors, as well as having our guidance and student family advocate offices located right across the hall. This will be great for collaborating and sharing information! This is expected to be finished by January at which time, we will move the office and main entrance back to our remodeled area.

The hallway leading to the art room is still closed off so construction crews can access the courtyard as they finish the exterior of the new library. This should be completed soon and we will all be happy to have the hallway opened back up!

After winter break, they will begin remodeling the old library and guidance space. This will become classrooms and another open collaborative space. This work is expected to be completed by the start of the 2020 school year. This will wrap up the work being done in phase I of the project at South East.

If you have any questions, please let us know! It is exciting to watch our progress!

CLASS UPDATES

Washington D. C. Trip!

For those of you who missed the Spring parent meeting for the 2020 Washington, DC trip, Mr. Merulla will be holding a fall meeting Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 7pm, in his new room, room 1135. It is located on the lower level, just below the new library. Enter through the south doors, go through the first set of double doors, and his is the first room on the left.

Mr. Merulla will present information, assist with registration, and answer questions

Back to School Night and Little Hawk Time

We had some parents asking for access to the homeroom presentation from Back to School Night. This presentation also offers some specific information regarding Little Hawk Time.

ELL Parent Meeting!

Parents of ELL identified students are invited to come learn about ELL services at SEJH and see our new book system! We will meet in room 2029 from 5:00-6:00pm. We encourage parents to enroll their students in junior high ELL in order to be prepared for their future education in high school and beyond!!

PE Uniforms!

Physical Education students must have a PE Uniform consisting of a Tee-shirt with their Last Name written on the back in marker, athletic shorts or sweatpants/leggings, tennis shoes and socks. Deodorant is highly encouraged. Laundering the PE Uniform every week or so is great too. Failing to wear a PE Uniform results in the loss of a point per class of two points possible. Thank you for assisting in keeping your child prepared for class and successful. Now they’ll be ready for activity. If you need help acquiring clothes for PE, please let your PE teacher or the office know.

Orchestra

The SE Orchestra is off to a great start! On August 14th & 15th, almost 50 junior high orchestra students participated in the 2nd Annual South East Orchestra Camp. Students learned two songs and performed a short concert for the parents & guardians. Five City High orchestra members served as camp counselors and led group games and sectional rehearsals. Special thanks to all the parents who provided assistance for this camp.

Using Canvas

As we discussed at Back to School Night, and hopefully you have heard from your students, all teachers are using the Canvas Learning Management system this year. This will take the place of teacher websites in terms of having one place where all assignments, due dates, agendas, etc are posted. We are working on getting information out on how parents can access their child's canvas account. For now, you can ask your student to log into their Canvas on their Chromebook and you can see what it looks like and what to expect. More information will be coming soon!

PBIS INFORMATION

PBIS Rewards App

What Parents Can See and Do

Our School is using PBIS Rewards to help us with our PBIS program. PBIS Rewards is a technology-based PBIS Management System that helps us with our behavior incentive program. You can learn about PBIS Rewards at their website (www.pbisrewards.com). Our students can earn rewards throughout the day by meeting our behavior expectations. These rewards are in the form of electronic points. They can redeem these points for privileges, tangible items, access to events, and other similar things.

Our expectation is that we will see overall behavior improve throughout the school and that the number of referrals we have will decrease. PBIS Rewards has a Parent App that will give you some insight into how your child is doing with respect to our PBIS program.

The Parent App will run on most smart devices, including smartphones and tablets. You can find it in the iPhone/iPad App Store, Google Play, and the Amazon App Store. Just search for "PBIS Rewards Parent". We will be sending home your parent PBIS Rewards letter this week, there will be a code to scan to start setting up your account.

Stadium Clean Up

If you have a student that is out for a fall sport or is planning to participate in one of our winter or spring sports we need your help. South East Jr. High is responsible for cleaning the south end zone of Kinnick Stadium 10/13, and 11/24. Gates open at 7:00 AM. We are usually done by 8:15. If you have a gas leaf blower we encourage you to bring it with you. The more blowers we have the better job we do and the sooner we are done. If you do not have a blower, report to the concourse under the west stands to get brooms and bags. We encourage recycling of all cardboard and plastic items. There are recycling bags available in the west concourse. Please start at the top of the stadium and work down. Move all waste materials to an aisle and then clean the aisles from the top down. All bags of garbage and recyclables should be moved to the concourse area. South East is responsible for the entire south end zone so please stay until we are all done. This a major athletic fundraising activity for South East. The money that we receive helps pay for athletic uniforms and equipment for all sports. Thanks in advance for your help.

South East Apparel

South East is offering an online apparel store. This store will be open through Monday, September 16th! Happy shopping!
