FMP 2.0
On November 2, 2021, the Iowa City Community School District will ask voters to consider the renewal of the Iowa Secure and Advanced Vision for Education Levy (SAVE) and the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL). The no new money renewal of these levies allows the District to complete the promise of FMP 1.0 and to embark on Facilities Master Plan (FMP) 2.0 with no tax increase. This extension of SAVE and PPEL also provides funding for District-wide lifecycle projects that would otherwise pull vital teaching and learning dollars from the District’s general fund. This progress would come with no increase to the current tax rate.
Our District will hold two community information sessions on the extension of PPEL and SAVE. Superintendent Matt Degner will share details about the November 2, 2021 vote and answer questions from participants. The information sessions will be held virtually on the following dates:
- Tuesday, October 5 from 5-6:00 pm
(Zoom link: https://iowacityschools-org.zoom.us/j/92800531354) - Wednesday, October 20 from 5-6:00 pm
(Zoom link: https://iowacityschools-org.zoom.us/j/92800531354)
You can learn more about our District’s plan at www.IowaCitySchools.org/FMP2.0. We appreciate your engagement in this process and please vote on November 2, 2021. #ICCSDtogether

CLASS UPDATES
Infinite Campus
Literacy with Ms. Eslami
Hi, Parents & Guardians.
We are well on our way in Ms. Eslami's literacy class. The last few weeks we have been working on establishing routines and learning what it takes to become an independent reader as well as summarizing and using textual evidence. Please have a chat with your student about what their independent reading goal is. Reading is so important, and a big goal I have for them is to leave Literacy 7 knowing the habits of successful readers as I know this is a focus in Language Arts 8, too.
At the end of October, we will be starting our first whole class novel called Harbor Me by Jacqueline Woodson. Every student will have a copy of the book during this unit. There will also be audio available on Canvas once we get started. If your student chooses to listen, we ask that they always have the book in front of them as well so they can follow along.
This trimester, the priority standards we are working on are summarizing, gathering text evidence to prove our answers, inferring, and stating a theme of a text.
If you have any questions, please email me at eslami.elizabeth@iowacityschools.org.
Thank you,
Ms. Eslami

PBIS INFORMATION
Getting Involved with PBIS at SEJH
How Can I Be Involved?
Our PBIS Committee works really hard to come up with fun trimester acknowledgement systems based on our PBIS data. We like to provide special acknowledgements/prizes to students who follow PBIS expectations, and with a limited budget, we rely on donations. If you would like to donate to South East PBIS here’s how: gift cards (any $ amount) to Amazon, Hy-Vee, Starbucks, etc... , t-shirts, water bottles, journals, fun socks, etc.
Contact: Reggie Shipp (shipp.reginald@iowacityschools.org)
What Parents Can See and Do
Our School is using PBIS Rewards to help us with our PBIS program. PBIS Rewards is a technology-based PBIS Management System that helps us with our behavior incentive program. You can learn about PBIS Rewards at their website (www.pbisrewards.com). Our students can earn rewards throughout the day by meeting our behavior expectations. These rewards are in the form of electronic points. They can redeem these points for privileges, tangible items, access to events, and other similar things.
Our expectation is that we will see overall behavior improve throughout the school and that the number of referrals we have will decrease. PBIS Rewards has a Parent App that will give you some insight into how your child is doing with respect to our PBIS program.
The Parent App will run on most smart devices, including smartphones and tablets. You can find it in the iPhone/iPad App Store, Google Play, and the Amazon App Store. Just search for "PBIS Rewards Parent". We will be sending home your parent PBIS Rewards letter this week, there will be a code to scan to start setting up your account.
