Weekly Update
Sunday, January 3rd, 2021
Dear Families,
Happy New Year! We hope that you are all healthy and well, and that you have had 2 very enjoyable weeks with your children. The snow was certainly a welcome addition to our repertoire of outdoor activities to do with our kids, and hopefully you all enjoyed some wintery fun too!
We wanted to reach out to ensure that everyone feels supported and ready for next week: all Elementary students will be learning remotely from January 4-8th. The school will be closed during this time (including the FCCC Before and After School program). Our staff have been preparing for a pivot to remote learning all fall, and are well equipped to support their students during this time. Your children are in great hands! Some important information:
Monday, January 4th: School staff will participate in a brief virtual staff meeting in the morning, and will then begin calling families to check in and provide class-specific information. If you receive a phone call with "no caller ID" please respond, or listen to the voicemail that is left for you: it may be a school staff member trying to reach you. Your child's teachers will have prepared "asynchronous" learning activities for students to do independently tomorrow (there will not be any "synchronous/live" instruction tomorrow). Please ensure that your child checks their LDSB email/virtual classroom to see the instructions and activities left by their teachers. If you do not hear from your child's teacher, or another school staff member tomorrow, please contact the school on Tuesday.
Tuesday, January 5th-Friday, January 8th: Students will participate in both synchronous (live) and asynchronous (independent) learning activities. Your child's teacher will provide you with a timetable so that you are aware of when the synchronous learning activities will take place.
Attendance: Teachers will be taking attendance each day, by checking to see if students are online during synchronous learning, or by checking to see that students are accessing the asynchronous learning activities. Our teachers know that learning from home may look differently for different families: please don't hesitate to communicate with your child's teacher to discuss your unique situation, and ensure that you are receiving the information and support needed to provide continuity of learning for your child.
Borrowing School Technology: All homeroom teachers reached out to families in November and December to determine who would need to use school technology during a pivot to remote learning. For families who indicated that they would need school technology prior to the holidays, pick up of technology will be from 1:00-4:00 tomorrow. (Teachers will confirm this when they call you tomorrow.) If your situation has changed, and you realize now that you will need to borrow a school device, please let your child's teacher know tomorrow, and a device will be ready for pick up from 10:00-2:00 on Tuesday. Please wear a mask and respect physical distancing protocols when picking up a device for your child. If you are unable to pick up school technology during one of these times, please contact the school and we will make an alternate arrangement.
As always, please don't hesitate to connect should we be able to support your family during this time.
All the best,
Mme Peart and Mrs. Davey
