MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL WATSON

Dear Clear Lake Families,

April 1, 2021

Dear Clear Lake Families,

I hope you all enjoyed your spring break and were able to relax and enjoy time with each other. We are excited to get back to school and continue in our Hybrid learning model. As we return to our two days of in-person learning and two days of at-home learning, please remember these important details:

  • Our school hours are from 10:30 to 3:30. Please do not drop off your student before 10:00. If you need to pick-up your student early for an appointment (we appreciate that you are trying to schedule these so they do not interrupt their in-person days) please pick them up before 3:00. We will not be able to check students out after 3:00. If you call the office we will have them ready to go!

  • Our school campus is closed from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. This includes our fields, the track, and the playground. We appreciate your support in keeping our campus safe. If you need to visit the office, we ask that you please wear a mask while on school grounds.

  • Students need to wear a mask when they are at school. The mask should be two layers and fit them. If they forget their mask, no worries, we will provide them with one!

  • Attendance for at-home days is taken during students’ live PE time. Make sure students are logging in for PE, Music, and Interventions if they are in one. Each grade level also has at-home Zoom support times. Students can log in and get help from a staff member on any of their at-home work. Check your student’s SeeSaw or Canvas page for the time and link.

We greatly appreciate all of our family’s patience and encouragement as we have made this transition into Hybrid learning. To maximize our time with students’ in-person days, and to catch up on instruction, we need your continued support in making sure that students are completing their work on their at-home days. Together as a team, we will foster the resilience our students have and help them achieve their potential. Thanks for your partnership in their success!

Your Principal,

Greg Watson

GUIDELINES FOR FACE COVERINGS

Big picture

As more students and staff return to in-person learning, face coverings are required when in a Salem-Keizer Public Schools building, with situational exceptions. They should be worn both indoors and outdoors, including during outdoor recess.

If a student needs a face covering, the school has them available for students.

Oregon Battle of the Books

Oregon Battle of the Books is well underway. There aren’t a lot of participants this year and it definitely looks different than normal but we’re having fun and starting battles shortly after returning from break. We’re doing individual battles this year instead of team battles. But we’re getting the opportunity to read a lot of good books!

Kindergarten registration for the 2021-22 school year is now open!

Enrolling your child in school early allows our school to prepare for the best possible education. Although the district will not know how school may look next fall, enrolling early, your kindergarten students are sure to thrive with the support of trained educators with in-person and online learning options.

Children who will be 5-years-old on or before September 10, 2021 are eligible to register for free, full-day kindergarten with SKPS. Learn more about how to complete online registration on our district website.

To complete registration, you will need an updated record of your child’s immunizations, proof of residence and your proof of age with you to register.

We welcome all students, regardless of nationality or place of birth. To learn more about kindergarten registration, how to prepare your child for school and Salem-Keizer Public Schools, please visit our district website.

Updates to 2020-21 Academic Calendar

In February, the Salem and Keizer communities were hit with severe inclement weather, causing widespread power outages across the district. With students and staff accessing classes through comprehensive distance learning, ongoing power outages impacted the ability for classes to continue, causing a week of school closures for our students.

Due to these school closures and the transition to hybrid learning for students in grades K-12, the district needed to make the following adjustments to the 2020-21 academic calendar:

Key changes for SKPS parents/guardians:

  • April 8 – School day for Elementary/ No student contact day for Secondary (EDGE program continues as previously scheduled)
  • April 9 – School day for Elementary/ No student contact day for Secondary (EDGE program continues as previously scheduled)
  • April 12 – Updated to full student support Monday, previously partial grading day for secondary
  • June 8 – Additional day added for SKPS high school graduation ceremonies
  • June 17 – Last day for students, previously June 15

The full updated academic calendar, including a breakdown of key dates for parents and guardians, is available on our district website.

FREE MEALS AVAILABLE

Big picture

Meals available at all elementary, middle, and high schools

While your student is in school for hybrid learning, they will receive all their meals at school, at no cost. Hybrid learning students will be fed breakfast and lunch on site and will be offered a supper as they leave. Each student is allowed one breakfast, one lunch, and one supper per day so that means parents cannot pick up meals from the Grab-N-Go sites when their student is on site for hybrid learning. On the days your student is not on site for hybrid learning, meals are available at any of the Grab-N-Go sites throughout the community.

Grab-N-Go meal sites will be open at all elementary schools from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with all middle and high schools distribution from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Meals are free for any child or teen ages 1-18, and adults with special needs ages 18-21 who are enrolled in a Salem-Keizer Public Schools program.

Breakfast, lunch and supper

We are now including suppers in the Grab-N-Go meal bag. Each bag contains breakfast, lunch and supper. If you are picking up multiple bags, we recommend bringing your own bag to help carry the amount of food being distributed.
