Waggoner Road Junior High Legends
October 21 Edition 1
Message From Dr. Black
Thank you!
In light of the misunderstanding during recess last week, I just wanted to say thank you to all the parents who demonstrated support and understanding for our staff and our students. "It takes a village" and we will continue to strive to be the best "village" as we move our students towards success.
GROW WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED!
GENERAL INFORMATION
Concerns
Cafeteria
We welcome all parents to come and have lunch with your student. Due to food allergies, etc. no outside (commercialized) food is allowed in the cafeteria. If you decide to bring in commercialized food, you and your student may eat that food in the main office. If you bring a home-cooked dish and decide to eat in the cafeteria with your student you may not share those items with other students. You, as the parent/guardian, are more than welcome to purchase a school lunch while sitting in the cafeteria. Additionally, we are asking that you do not order commercialized food and have it delivered to the school for your student, nor send birthday cakes and party items for a lunch time festival. We appreciate your cooperation in this effort.
Cellphone/Earbud Policy
We understand that technology is presently a commonality within our society and thus we have permitted our students to utilize their cell phones during specific times of the day. Students are not permitted to have their cell phones and earbuds in-between classes. They are permitted to utilize their cell phones in class if the teacher allows them as a part of the lesson for the day. Additionally, students may use their cell phones during their lunch period but may not have earbuds or headphones on their neck or visible during that time. The only appropriate time for use of head phones is during class quite time, reading passages, or working through lessons at the direction of their teacher. Parents please note; should we have to confiscate cell phones, earbuds, or headphones for inappropriate usage, we will hold them in the office for parent retrieval.

BUS AND STUDENT PICK UP INFORMATION
Please be reminded that student pick-up should occur in the middle lot after school. We are requesting that all cars line up IN A SINGLE-FILE LINE. We have approximately 50 students who get picked up but over 500 who ride a bus. We need to ensure the safety of all of our students. PLEASE STAY IN YOUR CAR AND MOVE UP IN THE LINE AS CARS LEAVE. This consistent movement should help release the urge for parents to jump the line and zoom through the parking lot. Please exhibit patience so that our students remain safe.
When it begins to snow we will continue to line up in a single file line next to the plowed snow, utilizing the same process.
Here is a link to the map which shows how we will line the busses up.
FROM THE PTO
The next PTO Meeting will be Tuesday November 12th from 6:30-7:30 PM. We need as many parents as possible to participate as we work towards increasing our funds that go directly towards the students here at WRJH and their activities.
Anyone interested in donating items to the teachers for their dinner during Parent Teacher conferences, please contact the PTO president: hannahelijah1981@yahoo.com
TEACHER SPOTLIGHT
Hello Raiders! I am Stephanie Brown and new to WRJH. My husband, three children, and I relocated to Columbus in June. Previously, I taught language arts at Van Buren Middle School near Findlay, Ohio. Over the past 24 years as an educator, I have coached high school and collegiate cheerleading, co-directed and choreographed musicals and competitive choirs, and advised National Junior Honor Society and Power of the Pen. I am excited to be teaching College and Career Readiness, as I hold a college counseling certificate. I found my passion in the college and career field eight years ago when I founded a consulting firm. In my free time I help students and their families navigate the college application/scholarship process and career search/selection. When I’m not helping students of all ages, I enjoy being with my family, watching sporting events, and traveling.
