Jo's Sport Talk
Despite the weather cooling down, it is still all go on the sports fields in Term 2. All our school sports teams are in full swing at local competitions, plus some students have been busy representing TPS at various inter-school events.
Tauranga City Basketball Association Year 3&4 Basketball World Cup
Last Thursday, the TPS BALLERS, our Year 3 & 4 basketball team, played in the 2022 Primary Schools Basketball World Cup Tournament. Unfortunately, it was not the Ballers day in terms of the score, but participation gained the players so much court time, benefiting their skills, and knowledge of the game. They displayed some of the best teamwork and always a 'never give up' attitude. Ka mau te wehi! Thank you Shannon and Jess for generously giving your time and energy to coach the team for the day.
WBOP Cross Country Championships
On Tuesday, Tessa, Molly, Mauritz, Flynn, Grace, Oliver, Beau and Andre (Timothy had to withdraw due to injury), competed at the WBOP Cross Country Championships. The race took place over the gruelling track at Waipuna Park, and involved the most competitive runners from around the region. All of our students finished mid-field, which is a fantastic effort, except for Tessa, who came an outstanding 3rd place! Tessa will now compete at the BOP Championships next week in Rotorua. From everyone at TPS, waimarie pai Tessa!
BOP RIP Rugby World Cup
The TPS Year 3 & 4 RIP Rugby Team competed at the BOP RIP Rugby World Cup yesterday after winning the South and West Cluster Tournament a couple of weeks ago. The World Cup was held in Paengaroa, as all of the teams were travelling from Tauranga, Whakatane and Rotorua. The team did exceptionally well completing their pool games with 4 wins and 1 draw, confirming a spot in the Grand Final. The opposing team was Westbrook Primary School from Rotorua, and was unfortunately too strong, beating us 6-3. The players should be extremely proud of their efforts; they showed determination on defence, speed on attack, and some very clever cross kicks. Tino Pai! Thank you Rich for coaching the team, and all of the parents who came over and supported the players from the sidelines.
