WHS Community Weekly
Week of September 17
September is National Attendance Awareness Month
- Encourage your student to set a regular bed time and morning routine.
- Encourage your student to prepare for school the night before by finishing schoolwork and getting a good night's sleep.
- Avoid appointments and extended trips when school is in session.
- Keep track of your student’s attendance. Missing more than 9 days could put your student at risk of falling behind.
- Talk to your student about the importance of attendance.
- Talk to your students’ teachers if you notice sudden changes in behavior. These could be tied to something going on at school.
- Encourage meaningful after school activities, including sports, school sponsored activities and clubs.
School Calendar Changes
- Changing the October 11 inservice day to a regular school day
- Using the February 15 and March 15, 2019 snow days as regular days
- Adding 4 days to the end of the year (June 12, 13,14, & 17, 2019)
- The new "last day of school" will be June 17, 2019
- WHS Graduation will stay on June 8 starting at 5:00 pm. Seniors will need to make up a day, probably on a Saturday. We will work on a plan for how this works, and communicate it to students and families.

Our Why
Important Information
Parent Advisory Council
Our goals are to increase communication, support the learning environment, and provide an opportunity for all parents to participate in the WHS community. This is a forum for all school-related topics:
- Do you have questions about Washougal High School?
- How can you as a parent help out the school?
- Do you have questions for our principal, counselors, or athletic director?
We are looking for parents who want to commit to attending. The Washougal High School Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is comprised of parents who want to know more about the inner workings of Washougal High School. The PAC meets nearly once a month to discuss issues of importance to the entire school community and is a representative body that provides the perspective of parents to the WHS administration through regular communication with the principal. The PAC also serves to provide parent feedback on school policies and procedures and has a role in the development and implementation of the WHS School Action Plan. If there are issues parents want discussed at a PAC meeting, they should contact Aaron Hansen, Principal, at aaron.hansen@washougalsd.org or 360-954-3101.Your involvement matters – to our school and, most importantly, to your student.

Washington State 2018 Healthy Youth Survey
The Washougal School District is participating in the Washington State 2018 Healthy Youth Survey during fall 2018. The Healthy Youth survey includes questions related to physical activity and diet, unintentional and intentional injury, substance use, risk and protective factors, access to school-based services, and sexual behaviors, abuse and orientation. Survey results are used by schools, communities and state agencies to plan programs to support our youth and reduce their risks.
Participation in the survey is voluntary and the students’ answers are anonymous. WHS students will be taking the survey during their PRIDE Time class on Monday, October 15, 2018. We will have an extended PRIDE Time on that day. Please read the Parent and Student Notification Letter below for more information about the Healthy Youth Survey:
Survey results are used by schools, the district, communities and the state and local health departments to plan and to evaluate programs to support our youth and to reduce their risks.
