Precision Agriculture
Unmanned Aerial Vehicle based Sensor Platform for Precision Agriculture
India ranks high globally in agricultural production but low in agricultural productivity. The main causes of low productivity are lack of nutrients, faulty irrigation, sub-optimal planting, weed infestation, pests and diseases. Productivity can be significantly increased by precisely monitoring crops and identifying biotic and abiotic stresses before it is too late.
Deliverables and Milestones
Hyper-spectral imaging systems due to their high cost and weight have until recently been used mainly in satellites for agriculture, geology and military applications. Recent break-through in MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) technology has resulted in low cost and lightweight hyper-spectral sensors that find widespread applications in agriculture, healthcare, environment, food processing, mineralogy and public safety. The advent of low cost MEMS based spectrometry will herald a new age where it will be possible for the common man to interact with the chemical properties of nature rather than just the physical properties possible until now.
