MEET CASEY CURRIGAN - 2019-20 JMMS PRINCIPAL

Casey Currigan will be the principal of JMMS for the 2019-20 school year. Casey Currigan has been the Principal of Oak Valley Middle School (OVMS) in Poway Unified since 2012. Since taking the reins, OVMS has consistently ranked as one of the top five public middle schools in San Diego. Additionally, the school has won numerous awards including a 2017 California Gold Ribbon. At the core of all his work you will find a mantra based on personal accountability, integrity and courage. Lessons all learned during a lifetime of public service. He is very much looking forward to taking the reins at JMMS and returning to the small town American values of his youth.

Casey has also served as the assistant principal at Black Mountain Middle School in Poway Unified. As the solo assistant principal for a school of over 1200, his roles and responsibilities included testing, discipline, attendance, construction, AVID, science, math and PTSA. During his tenure he was key in supporting the site earning AVID National Demonstration Site status.

Lastly, Casey is a married father of two teenage girls. He met his wife and love of his life 20 years ago during his first teaching position at Marston Middle School. Prior to his job at Marston he served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. He graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Biology and he earned his Masters Degree in Educational Technology. At Marston he was selected teacher of the year and chaired the science team. In 2005, he was promoted to the Dean of Students at Marston where he was responsible for student behavior and attendance.

We look forward to Casey joining AUSD.

KINDNESS WEEK

Every other month, we celebrate Kindness Week across AUSD. Our goal is to acknowledge and celebrate acts of kindness, respect and be compassionate to one another. We hope you will join in helping our students celebrate one another and develop the ability to be empathetic. Our next Kindness Week will take place on May 27-31. Last month, JMMS ASB showered students with kindness in the form of letters, quotes, and special treats. Our elementary schools followed with their own acts of kindness like CELC's Bee Kind Day.
