Tips, Titles and Tools for Teachers
Celebrating a New School Year
Have you heard of #classroombookaday? If not, I would highly encourage you to read Jilliam Heise's blog post, #classroombookaday & The Power of Shared (Picture Book) Stories. Jillian may be a middle school teacher, but her idea of reading aloud at least one picture book everyday to her students is one that I highly recommend. In this post, she shares quotes from teachers (including teachers in grades K-5!) about the power of implementing #classroombookaday on their classroom communities.
Happy Reading!

On August 10, book-loving bloggers share their Top 10 picture books using the hashtag #pb10for10. Here's a collection of some of my favorite Top 10 lists from 2017! Most of these posts include ten picture books connected by a common topic. The books on these lists would make outstanding read alouds! Let me know if you are looking for a copy of a particular title as I own a number of the books on these lists and some are available in our school libraries. Enjoy!

Grades 2-3 Fenway and Hattie
Grades 3-5 The Wild Robot
Goodreads Summary:
Fenway is an excitable and endlessly energetic Jack Russell terrier. He lives in the city with Food Lady, Fetch Man, and—of course—his beloved short human and best-friend-in-the-world, Hattie.
But when his family moves to the suburbs, Fenway faces a world of changes. He’s pretty pleased with the huge Dog Park behind his new home, but he’s not so happy about the Evil Squirrels that taunt him from the trees, the super-slippery Wicked Floor in the Eating Room, and the changes that have come over Hattie lately. Rather than playing with Fenway, she seems more interested in her new short human friend, Angel, and learning to play baseball. His friends in the Dog Park next door say Hattie is outgrowing him, but that can’t be right. And he’s going to prove it!
Goodreads Summary:
When robot Roz opens her eyes for the first time, she discovers that she is alone on a remote, wild island. Why is she there? Where did she come from? And, most important, how will she survive in her harsh surroundings? Roz's only hope is to learn from the island's hostile animal inhabitants. When she tries to care for an orphaned gosling, the other animals finally decide to help, and the island starts to feel like home. Until one day, the robot's mysterious past comes back to haunt her....
