Instructional Focus:

2D: Managing Student Behavior

In order for students to be deeply engaged in learning, the classroom must be orderly and safe. Students need to know what is expected of them, and what can be expected of their peers. Students need to feel respected, and their dignity left intact when being corrected. Positive behavior is being methodically reinforced.

Food for thought:

  • Would ALL students be able to recite what you expect of them?
  • How do you give specific, positive reinforcement to students?
  • If you were to ask students, would they report that you give more positive or negative feedback?
  • When a student is not following an expectation, does instruction need to be stopped to correct?
  • Are you frequently moving around the room to be preventative in your classroom management?
